How do I find out what is happening with our fault

Been 'upgraded' to faster fibre for a month now with no sign of the advertised 38Mb ave speed (or even close, frequently 1Mb). Connection keeps dropping. Engineer been to house (2 weeks ago), said he has reported a fault at the cabinet. Service centre says we have an engineer booked - will arrive at time in the SMS we received. NO SMS received. I know things are difficult at the moment - is there any way of getting an update about what is going on?
