Improving my connection for gaming

As you said the DMZ "Should" resolve any port blocking issues and allow it to run freely outside the network.

Run a ping test - https://www.netmeter.co.uk/ping-test/ - going by what your getting I would say it should be in the acceptable range.

Also follow Michelles link when your having problems so TT can follow this on for you.

I would try,

Full factory reset on the router by pressing and holding the reset button for 1/2 mins, then looking for a f/w update TT.
"Any unofficial fw may void the warranty and TT may charge you"

2. Try another brand of router (Most routers are able to self setup to TT network).

I remember having a very old D-Link router (about 10 years ago) and I was on ADSL and I had an similar issue from what I can remember.

Thanks for running a health check on my line Michelle.

When I setup my laptop ill run a wired speedtest and traceroute and post the results.

🙂

Thanks for all your help and suggestions Liquid. I have tried resetting the router, I believe the router automatically searches for the latest official F/w upon reset. I also turned off my router for over 30mins so that my router would request a new external IP address.

I was considering a new router, but I have no idea how to sync it to TalkTalk. Would you happen to know any setup guide links for using a 'self bought' router?

@FireHe I would forget about routers at the moment and concentrate on providing OCE Michelle with the information she requested. If there are any server issues then the router is immaterial. Plus as has already been observed your basic sync and throughput performance is just fine.

All looks good there. Have you tried pinging your game server?

Hi FireHe,

Thank you. The first hop shows high pings to the router. Did you run the test wired or wireless? Are you usually connected to the games wired or wireless?

Thanks

Hi michelle,

All my tests were with a wired connection to my laptop.

Would you like me to repeat the tests? I will post a new set of results just in case you need them.

Hi FireHe,

Ok thanks for confirming. Was the test run with just the one device connected wired directly to the router? Did you also run the test when you experienced the latency?

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

I always play using a wired ethernet. While playing, my ping to the game server is 6-8ms for Apex legends. I have tried playing using the wireless 2.4 Ghz wif-fi and the ping is slightly higher at 13 ms with slightly reduced upload and download speeds. I have tried using other ethernet cables but there was no difference with its wired connection speeds/ping.

I ran the test with another device connected wired to a wifi extender/powerline adapter. I will run another test with this connection disconnected.

I feel I should add that, I have tested/played with all other devices wired and wireless, disconnected from the network. I connected my Ps4 with a wired ethernet, disconnected all other devices and also turned off the broadcast of 2.4 and 5 Ghz wi-fi from my router. This did not change the poor quality of the broadband while playing.

Hi FireHe,

Ok thanks for confirming this. Do you have a different router that you can test with to rule this out?

Thanks

Hi FireHe,

Ok, would you like us to send a replacement router for testing purposes to rule this out?

Thanks

Will this router you possibly send to me be a new router that is able to act as a replacement for my current router, or is it just a testing router that is not suitable for day-to-day use?
