Laptop killing internet connection

Everytime I connect my laptop to my home wi fi I lose internet connection across all devices. As soon as I turn it off the internet comes back. 

It doesn't make any difference if I disconnect other devices first either.

How does the laptop connect to the router, Ethernet cable or wifi?

When you say that you lose Internet on other devices, are you unable to connect to the internet at all, do you get an error message, or is just that the performance is really poor?

Hi,
The laptop normally connects via wifi but I have also tried using an ethernet cable. When its connected I have internet for a few minutes but then I lose it on all devices including the laptop.
When I ran the troubleshooter I got an error message stating DNS server unavailable. As soon as I disconnect the laptop I can access the internet again. The laptop works fine if I use wifi elsewhere

Is there any application on the laptop that could be running an automatic backup to an online server? Just wondering if when your router connects to the Internet it resumes an upload that could be using all the upstream bandwidth, this can affect downloads on all devices

Double check that the Laptop is not attempting to change GATEWAY or DNS values.
