Hi just renewed the fibre broadband.

not sure what’s going on but we seem to be having very slow webpages. Issue seems to be on our macs & PCs. Mobile devices &  Netflix Videos seem to work fine on the PS4 etc.

but on the Mac & pcs webpages either load and work or get stuff loading. Google loads fine.

is there a dns issue? We’re using the same kit as before and on the Talktalk dns servers.

is our web traffic being shaped??

I doubt it very much, but you could log in to your router and set another DNS provider instead of talktalk to test:

google DNS

primary = 8.8.8.8

secondary = 8.8.4.4

cloudflare DNS

primary = 1.1.1.1

secondary = 1.0.0.1

Open DNS

primary = 208.67.222.222

secondary = 208.67.220.220

You can also mix and match primary and secondary, for example cloudflare primary 1.1.1.1 and google secondary 8.8.4.4

Personally I use open DNS (primary & secondary)

primary = 208.67.222.222

secondary = 208.67.220.220

At the end of the day, all DNS do the same task, route URL's to IP addresses

So if you search for whatever.com the DNS server will check it's records and route you to the IP for whatever.com - so you can connect.

Think of DNS as a phone book, you look up the name and find the number

+1 for OpenDNS

I would try a wired ethernet cable connection to the router first (if you haven't already) - just in case  its a wifi problem

Not really sure what the issue was. Potentially some issue with IPv6. But I've turned wifi off on the talktalk router and am now using the better wifi on the apple airport extreme. This is connected via ethernet. So now the talktalk box is just a modem & dhcp server.

Wifi connection is much stronger now & internet quick & stable.

The 79.79.79.79 & 79.79.79.80 seem quicker than google dns which we used to use.

Hi dopeytree,

Just to confirm, which router are you currently using? (make and model)

Thanks

I'm sorry, we can't supply it free of charge. If you speak to our Loyalty team they may be able to arrange one at a discounted price.
