Slowness after router restart : Will it recover?

Afternoon all.

Normally 60Mbps, rock solid. Router restarted, now 4.3 Mbps.

On line chat person told me 'service could recover over next 48 hours'.

Is that anyone else's experiece? Will it come back up to speed? Or do I need to push harder with the support people?

What caused the restart? Are you aware of any issues with your landline service?

Hiya, I moved the table that it was sat on, and it restarted. Landline is fine, no noise that I can hear.

Morning all : update.

Checked stats on router, absolute shocker. Attenuation of > 60, no wonder it struggles.

Decided to swap the modem cable. Connecion time a lot better, attenuation 18, Router reports link speed back to 60 mbps. Joy, one might think?

Wrong. Speed test 4.52 Mbps download, 15.9Mbps upload!

So my upstream is instantly back to what it was : downstream still gash.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Can you run a couple of wired speedtests using the TalkTalk speedchecker in My Account so that these can be logged? It could just be a router problem, which make and model is it?

Other than that let's see what the support team have to say when they are back online tomorrow. If you haven't done so already make sure that your personal details including TalkTalk landline number are complete on your community profile here so that they can link your forum identity with your account.

Hi Nick

I'm really sorry to hear this.

I've completed a line test which has detected a possible fault. Is your router currently connected at the test socket?

Please can you also power down your router for a full 30 minutes and then run a speed test following this?

Thanks

Debbie

Hi Debbie thanks for getting back.

I'm not connected to the test socket.

I'll not be able to the switch off until tonight I'm afraid, but I'll do it then.

Thanks for the help so far.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply.

If you could connect the router at the test socket then I can run a further line test in this set up.

Please let us know how the speed compares following the 30 minute power down of the router.

Thanks

Debbie

Hello again Debbie.

I switched it off for a decent 40 mins or so, switched it back on.

Looking a lot more healthy now. Coming in at around 55Mbps down, up 15 ish.

So, I think we are fairly happy at this end. Of course, if there's anything we can do to squeeze it up north of 60, we'd be very grateful. Aware we might be fighting against physics though.

Many thanks for your help!

Hi Nick

That's great, thanks for keeping us updated 🙂

What speed do you get on a wired speed test?

Thanks

Hi again! 56.3 Mbps

Your average download speed

14.4 Mbps

Your average upload speed

Which is not at all bad in my book, but, should there be any tweaks or issues that can be solved to push it a bit, gratefully recieved.

Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply. The throughput speed (speed tests) look good based upon the sync speed of 59.5mb.

The sync speed may increase further if the connection remains stable.

Thanks
