What is different about the grey talk talk microfilter cable that gives it faster speeds?

A while ago I accidentally tripped on and broke my grey talk talk microfilter cable. I tried both a 1m and 30cm standard generic ones after and both reduced my speed from 58mb down to 48mb down.

What exactly makes the talk talk cable better and how can I look for a third party one that would be the same? It's maybe that I somehow damaged my line or even the router a bit so it slowed down, and if I pay for a replacement talk talk microfilter cable it might not still work to get my speed back up to 58mb.

Talk talk want £7.99 plus delivery charge on top for the cable, in which case I'd rather buy the better new router for £30 which should also come with one of those cables.

Hi MangyWolf

I'm sorry to hear this.

Any microfilter should work fine, it doesn't need to be one supplied by TalkTalk.

Your line is showing in sync at 57.1mb. Please can you power down your router for a full 30 minutes and then run a speed test following this?

Thanks

Debbie
