Ultraslow Fibre 150

Fibre 150 installed a couple of days ago by Openreach engineer.

Fastest speed available since, has been 38Mbs. About the same as my previous package.

What am I paying the extra for or will it correct itself sometime.

Hi @Jumble

The devices that are running OK may well be using the 5GHz band & the PC is on the 2.4GHz band as you say.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal, or no signal on some or all devices, might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a by-product of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers much more from interference than the 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.

If you would like me to help you, please can you specify the make/model of TalkTalk router that you are using?

I think the problem lies with my "older" PC. Tablet and phone are performing fine on wifi, achieving up to 140Mbs. PC still at 36Mbs.

Thanks to all for help.

Hello,

Can I just confirm, are the speeds ok if you connect wired? Is this only affecting the wireless speeds?

Thanks

What device is it and what WiFi adapter standard is it using ?

What WiFi link rate is it negotiating with the router ?

I have an older 2.4 Ghz device that will only connect at a maximum link rate of 54 Mbps and my latest smartphone only manages 135 Mbps no matter how close I get to my HUB, so they would be the limiting factors on a Fibre 150 service.

That's all before taking into account any local WiFi interference, cue @KeithFrench  !

@Jumble  what device are you using for the speed test and how is it connected to the router ?

If on WiFi, are you using the 2.4 or 5 GHz band ?

Simple questions.....

@Jumble  what devices are you using, how are they connected and do they have WiFi or LAN adapters that can support speeds above 100 Mbps ?

Hi

I'm showing the router is in sync at 160mb and all tests are clear.

Are you testing the speeds wired or over wifi ?

Thanks

Karl.
