Strange sounding phone ring...

Throughout the Covid pandemic I've been receiving nuisance calls. What's strange is that they come from UK numbers and yet they don't have the usual UK ring. I hear 1 x long ring rather than the typical 2 x short rings that we usually get in the UK. So what's the significance of the unusual rung? Is it something that TalkTalk does to try and flag up nuisance calls to their customers? Or is it more likely that these calls are genuinely coming from abroad? I must admit, the callers do tend to have foreign sounding accents...

Oh, what a shame - it'd be nice to have a special ring to identify nuisance callers 😎
