You'll be helping us ensure we get the experience right for you and the rest of our customers and you'll be entered into a Prize draw to win (on completion of trial) 2 x prizes of £100 worth of Amazon Vouchers

Am I eligible to take part in the trial?

  • Are you a TalkTalk customer?
  • Are you a TalkTalk broadband customer?
  • Do you have a Huawei HG633 router?

Sorry I have no idea. We were told to make sure the router was powered up on a certain night and the firmware was updated to V2. Then we just carried on as normal. For me it was no better, in fact it was possbily worse than the previous version.

Just seen this on the ico blog site. Perhaps talktalk could write up on the website and show how it applies to home routers as iot devices.

The iconewsblog is about technology and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). TalkTalk Group issued a press release on 4 June 2017 indicating that it was taking all necessary steps to meet the GDPR. Have you written to the Press Office about routers and the GDPR?

Why is the ssh login the same as the gui firmware login? that is what you need to be asking yourselves 😛 and that post was totally relevant to the HG633 firmware as i9s this Anyways sorry for going on about the routers security so much and making the firmware better.

I am looking to re-join talktalk after being with plusnet for 12months. Is this router still causing problems with the wifi? The router would only get a download speed of 17mb over wifi but 38mb over ethernet. Is this still an ongoing issue?

At the end of the trial I went back to my secondhand 635 which is faster and more stable. You can get them for not much money on Gumtree.

Hyst so people know yes I have logged into my 2 talk talk routers  a lot of ways on LAN (same etwork) and that is without correct log in but as mos know bypassing login on same network is not anything new and I accept that. However when can login on different network and not even the right protocol port user/pass 😛  login is too strong a word maybe as still need to maintain access but can change anything with script done beforehand and spammed as you get in and out without  authentication  logging it..

The thing is guys, you cant just cover a running config with holes with gui firmware and hope that everyone (including bots) will only do as you guys advise 😛 and the fact that its always cut down and so much missing on talk talk firmware and all this about trial of new firmware that addds nothing and ppl who try it be like"I dunno" when asked what is new

seriously guys 😛 and nope at no point did I use kali or other linux based rubbish to log in without details. The windows kernal and its holes  would be more use. I know there will always be exploits and most rare but come on seriously do something with the firmware 😛 some wrt used options? and fix the as many logins wrong as want on dlink and shorten login max lenght and password being able to change without enter old one........ few simple change that everyone uses (fundamental things)

Hi

I don't know if this is relevant to the trial or not but a few days ago my home network stoppped working.

I tried various things, reinstalling firmware, software, etc, but no luck.

When I looked at my HG633 server settings I noticed they had been updated. As I keep a record of the settings should I need them for future network changes, reinstallations etc. I noticed there was a change to the 'share | stoarge share | anonymous users | privilege' setting. This had changed from 'read and write' to 'read only' meaning the two way communication for my media players was not enabled. Made the change and everything now working again.

Whether this was a glitch, I cannot say, but given the firmware has been updated (v1.22t), I have to assume TalkTalk have modified the server without letting me know.

I would recommend all users keep a copy of the settings photo, or text, in case something similar happens to you. A pain to create, but it can make problem solving a lot easier.

Does anyone know an easy way of exporting or storing the settings in a text format?

Hi @porkie22  The HG633 trial has ended. New firmware v2.0t is being rolled out in batches to all customers that have left remote management enabled in their HG633 router. The configuration file is encrypted. No way to export a settings text file.

guys I only do this router for 4 hours fridaymorning so please please update me as I cant go another week not knowing what exactly was changed. The OCE should say as atm no one knows and its all good sayying improvments but what we want is the trutch and not an opinion. Of coarse its a great router as is the dlink its just the updates contain nothing exept patching and the original software has firmware that had lot more features was bashed out.
