We’re all in Oscars® La La Land

The Oscars® race may be in its final stretch, but new research reveals that almost seven in ten Brits (68%) have yet to watch any of this year’s nominated films. With over 62 individual movies tipped for Academy Award glory, a limited time to catch them all on the big screen, and non-stop hype about who will walk away with which gong - it’s easy to feel like we’ll end up missing out.

In a bid to help film fans decide which movies are really must-see, TalkTalk TV has enlisted a new breed of film critics to give their unbridled views on what to watch. The critics are vocal, brutally honest and, unlike Hollywood experts, aged between five and seven.

In the tongue-in-cheek new video, the 10 kid critics are tasked with watching the trailers of some of the most talked about films of the year and giving their unique perspective. They describe everything from the “cute but disgusting” kissing scenes between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s characters in La La Land, to the strange appearance of a “giant surfboard” in Arrival.

The video arrives at the perfect time for the one in five Brits (17%) who experience Award Season Anxiety – the feeling that there are too many good films to see and too little time to watch them all.

With excitement mounting ahead of this Sunday’s ceremony, the desire to appear in the know about the latest movies has reached fever pitch and means over a quarter of Britons (27%) admitted that the only reason they’ve watched an Oscar® nominated film was because of the hype surrounding it.

Aleks Habdank of TalkTalk TV, said:

“Awards Season is the best time of year for movie lovers, but all the five star ratings and glowing reviews can make it hard to decipher what to watch first.

We all already know what the Hollywood experts think, now it’s time to get the view from real people – and who better to tell it like it is than kids. Their frank opinions, shock, awe and giggles will hopefully give viewers enough insight to join in water cooler conversations about this year’s best movies.”

Many of this year’s Oscar® films will be available on TalkTalk TV later this year. In the interim, movie fans can take advantage of over 50 previous Oscar®, BAFTA and Golden Globes award-winning films including the likes of Spotlight, 12 Years a Slave, The King’s Speech and The Wolf of Wall Street. All films within ‘The Award Winners’ collection are available on the TalkTalk TV Store and have been discounted by up to 50%.
