The scam explained in detail - and how to avoid it A new advanced form of malware is using Facebook Messenger to infect victim's computers. The malware comes in the form of a Facebook Messenger message normally from a friend and often contains a link to a video file. The link points to a Google doc. The document then takes a picture from the victim's Facebook page and creates a dynamic landing page which looks like a playable movie.
Early September, ITV aired a documentary which followed the work of detectives attempting to stop criminals from scamming eBay customers. It was particularly moving to learn about the stories of these victims, as the fraudsters hacked and conned around 5000 UK victims to get their hands on over £9 million. That’s why it was so satisfying to see the scammers being brought to justice – and, is what makes my job so rewarding.
