Fibre optic slow speeds

Hello I just recently signed up for talktalk fibre optic 76 package and I just have went live but my broadband speed has been very sluggish I have checked on various devices and done speed tests and I am getting between 20 and 30 mbs and sometimes below 20 that can't be normal out of the 71 mb I was promised before I joined I would just like to know what the problem is? do I need to give the connection time to adjust or something? because I am not impressed 😞 if that's what to be expected I'd rather not continue with this package and revert back to my old broadband any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi Gibbons,

I've run a test on the line which hasn't detected a fault and the sync speed looks ok. Just to confirm, are you running the speed tests wired or wireless?

If you are already connected wired then could you try switching the router off for a full 30 minutes and then run a few more speed tests to see how the speeds compare,

Thanks

Hello I have currently reset my router for 30 mins and no success I'm still clocking around similar speed's I am using wired on my computer and wireless on my device's and they all up to date I don't know what the problem is it doesn't seem to be on my end.

Hi Gibbons,

Thanks for trying this. Could you run a ping and trace route when connected wired and post the results into the thread. Can you also run a few wired speed tests using the TalkTalk Speed Tester so we can see how your speeds compare in relation to the sync speed.

How do I perform a ping or traceroute

Thanks

Hi Gibbons,

Thanks for running the tests. Can you run 3 or 4 more speed tests throughout today and can you try to make sure that no other devices or applications on the same device are accessing the internet at the time

Hello Chris,I have done serveral tests over the weekend & today on the TalkTalk website/wired and it shows I am pushing 70 mb however it is not consistent the speed is bouncing back and forth throughout the day and my WiFi speeds are atrocious to be honest and yes I am fully aware of the circumstances that things may affect your wi-fi speed and have done all the appropriate things to try and counter the issue but I am still getting similar speeds when I was on a ADSL connection and all my devices are up to date and I am getting around 15-20 mb not what I was expecting for fibre optic I'm not seeing any real benefit I am starting to believe the actual problem maybe the Huawei HG633 router itself as I have noticed people on the community forums up in arms with similar complaints about this piece of equipment.

Hi Gibbons,

Could you try factory resetting the router and let us know once this has been completed. We can then try updating the firmware to see how the connection compares.

Thanks

I've scheduled an upgrade for you. Please reboot and wait 10 minutes. It may flash red/green (internet light) and reboot a couple of times)

Thanks

Hello its me again the connection was good for maybe 1 or 2 days but just being honest it has somehow magically managed to downgrade itself again it has been struggling to keep up I've had to reset my router multiple times it has been buffering & crashing its nowhere near reaching the required target I'm starting to feel a bit disappointed with fibre optic 😞

I know how you feel. I've been having problems for ages with the HG633. I'm considering buying my own router. The HG633 is terrible. I reset it multiple times a day, once that's done everything is great for a few hours, then it will suddenly drop altogether or just get extremely slow. A restart fixes it every time. This shows it's the router.

Hi Gibbons,

I'm sorry to hear this. The line test is still clear and the sync speed still looks consistent. Would you like us to send a 3782 router for testing purposes to see how the connection compares?

Thanks
