My router is transmitting on a second channel intermittently with no said. Talk talk not interested unless I have a problem and pay for it. Not sure if there is a security problem.

Not knowing which of the TalkTalk routers you have, all of the modern ones are Dual Band, meaning that one SSID is broadcast on the 2.4GHz band and the other on the 5GHz band. There is no way that the router would be sending out a second SSID in the 2.4Ghz band, except maybe for some of the older routers that supported a guest network. You can make any SSID hidden within the router's configuration, but that has never been a default setting.

Currently, I can only guess as to the cause of this, but I assume that you have seen this via a WiFi analyser? If so please send me screenshots of its 2.4GHz channels view & AP view & I will advise with more accuracy.
