New 4k remote skipping forward

Help turned the new 4k box on this morning and having problems with the remote control. When trying to select anything its skipping forward as if you've got your finger on the button even through I haven't.  Very hard to select anything when each press its skipping forward 4 or 5 steps. I have tried resetting the box and I've taken the batteries out of the remote nothing has worked
