If I connect my talktalk TV box to the internet (with a different provider) without a subscription will it cause any extra charges or will it work normally

It will function as a retail box would, i.e you will get freeview channels via the aerial, and access on demand players, such a iPlayer, under Apps.

 

you will lose access to the TalkTalk player, and any content you may therefore have purchased.

 

you may need to perform a soft reset by holding the front button for 10 seconds until it restarts, so you pick up the standard skin, rather than the TalkTalk one.
