Talktalk TV plus box slow to boot up and flashing picture

Our Talktalk TV plus box is about 1 year old. Its now taking quite a lot of time to boot up from standby. The picture is flashing on and then off for some seconds, several times over perhaps a couple of minutes.

Eventually after a couple of minutes the TV is showing ok, but this is a pain. Also, before it might have taken some time to boot up but the screen was blank during this process.

Any suggestions for how to fix that? We tried already selecting a more "ready" level of standby but its doing it with that too.

Is it the start of a bigger fault?

Hi

I'll get the TV Box replaced for you and see if this helps.

Thanks @fr8ys , I did not try this yet. But I don't think the HDMI cable is the issue because it only happens during start up. Also it was doing this previously when we were using the scart connection with the previous TV. (we thought it was a problem with the TV so changed the TV....)

Just a thought, but have you tried a different HDMI cable?

other than that sorry, I have no idea as to the cause.

maybe the OCE will have seen this before.

Hi,  yes I tried the "reset while keeping recordings option" yesterday. After that, the box still did this flashing during wake up but not quite as long as before. We shall see how it is over the next few days.

Not keen to delete recordings to solve this kind of moderate-level issue.

Do you have any idea actually what could be the cause. I guess if it is only happening a short while, this is more likely software than hardware related?

Have you tried a soft reset? To do this hold the power button on the front for around 10 seconds and the box should restart. Alternatively, you can turn off from the back and power back on.

If this doesn’t work then have you tried a YouView Maintenance Reset (https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/How-to-find-maintenance-mode/ta-p/1429347)?

Try the Factory Reset keep recording option.

You will then need to reset your personal settings (such as parental controls / RF loop through / Surround Sound etc.) and also reset your scheduled recordings (might be worth taking a note of future recordings before doing this so you don’t miss any).

If all else fails then try a full factory reset from the settings menu. You will lose your recordings but you may be asked to do this before the OCE look at other alternatives.

Hope it works but if not then please let us know and I’ll flag for further assistance.
