Youview box Huawei fails to start on waking up all the time

My huawei youview box has been problematic for a few months now and needing several factory resets to revive it so I can record programs.

Tonight it came up with maintenance mode showing error 102, so after googling to find out a solution found how to get back into maintenance mode. I have tried every option with no further progress and still shows waking up all the time. It appears to reload the firmware but the box fails to startup. Being a retired IT specialist I have come to conclusion the box is beyond redemption and needs a replacement. I have tried to call support to report this but closed and chat line always busy. How can I progress this issue. Thanks

sounds like you're right if done all usual stuff.

probably a failed hard drive?

the guys here are mon-fri 9-5 (im sure) and sure they'll sort something out for you, probably replacement box.

in mean time to make things quicker for you, if not already, ensure your forum account details link to your talktalk account, eg phone number, first /last name

Appreciate your help and advice Graham, yeah I've made sure my profile is updated with my talktalk email address and full name. I will probably try ringing support tomorrow if I can get through. Cheers

I personally would wait for the forum guys here, rather than calling, they're very helpful on here 🙂

Hopefully you get it sorted soon

Solution

OK will see if forum tech support guys get in touch to organise a replacement unit. Thanks

NB.

Just found an interesting post on community youview.com that this error can relate to a sticking hard drive in the box and a sharp tap on the top of the box whilst powered down can in the majority of cases cause it to work again after a Internet /USB reload with recording saved does the trick.

Will give this a shot as nothing to lose and report back to forum.

Apparently Some TalkTalk engineers aware of this fix due to shipping back boxes to huawei and they worked again after being jiggled about in transit.

Marvelous this google research!!

Hi Karl, thanks for getting back to me regarding the faulty youview box.

I rang tt tech support to ask if there was a fix and they have monitored the box online on startup and come to same conclusion as me and Graham that it is dead useless brick that needs a replacement.

They have organised a replacement sending out today.

I had to call them as I needed to discuss my renewal of contract which has been sorted out.

If it's possible for you to check my new contract as on the phone I was offered fibre 65 plus anytime calls at a special rate, but when getting the confirmation email it is showing fibre 35 so need clarification rather than spending another 90 minutes on the phone.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks and cheers.

Hi

I can see in the notes they have mentioned fibre 65 and the anytime call boost etc, but looking at the line / package, your line is only capable of estimated speeds between 32-36mb, so fibre 65 would be of no benefit to you as your line would not reach those speeds.

Thanks

Karl.

Thanks for looking into this Karl, I really appreciate your help.
For the last 3yrs I've only been able to get download speeds of around 37mb/s but been on the faster fibre package which now becomes fibre 65.
The customer service agent seemed to indicate that work was being done locally that might give me the higher speed, but no worries as they have given me a good deal for broadband and phone.
Sorry to have side tracked from my original post but hopefully the new youview box will sort it.
I have to say this community and users and techies like you make it worthwhile staying with TalkTalk.
Many thanks
