I just encountered this today and having searched the internet have noticed it is a common issue particularly with LG TV's and many of the answers are actually saying its a hardware issue!
At first i thought it was the tuner in my tv gone up the spout until i switched on my other lg 3d tv to see the same thing has happened.
This leads me to think its the aerial signal - however i am getting a signal via hdmi through the youview box but when plugging the youview rf input directly into the tv i get nada
It seems the Youview box is able to amplify the signal or is more sensitive to a lower input somewhat so that the tv can receive it via HDMI!
I had a look at an old LG tuner board and it seems the lg tv does some sort of signal threshold check and if the voltage is not at the required level it feeds back to the cpu board that there is no aerial and so the tv firmware switches off the aerial icon in the menu!
Had a look at the freeview website and it seems they are changing signal frequencies this year and in my area Glasgow last month when the issues started.
Has anyone else noticed this happening to their LG TV or other makes?
Blackhill transmitter in my case!
Have a panasonic plasma TV upstairs that has it's own hardware issues, but thats another story.
I'm in the north west on the winter hill transmitter, usually get a nice strong signal but noticed this week that some channels such as ITV just stopped for minutes at a time. now usually if there is no signal the TV will say no signal... Strangest thing, this went to a blank screen with the message no video. So something strange is happening to freeview signals her as well.
My old SONY used to do that, apparently "NO VIDEO" means that there is a channel broadcasting there but it is either not actively broadcasting a programme or that the signal strength is marginal.
Yeah thought it was apparently they are changing a lot of frequencies this year and from what I have googled there are loads of problems now appearing but they are trying to hush it up and make out that only a few people are experiencing the issue.
The Glasgow freeview forum has lit up with complaints.
Went up on the roof today with my signal meter and yip the signal is over 40% less than i measured it before and when doing even a scan on the youview I have lost 30 channels on it as well.
The youview box seems to be more sensitive to signal strength than the tv so thats why its still getting most channels.
Bit of a bummer as I have just cancelled my Virgin account after 20 years and gone over to the darkside lol will miss the Tivo-6 i must admit but hey Ive got a spare 1tb 2.5" hard disk for my laptop now so its not all bad
Cant beat Talktalks' - Friends and Fibre for £19.95 for 36mbps fibre and unlimited phone calls.
Tried to get a discount Virgin lied and put me on VIVID 20 - 20mbps fibre and a 30gb download limit for £30 told me it was unlimited 50mbps. I thought Vivid 50 was their lowest tariff!
Had enough of paying £50 for the basic package and getting less channels on the Tivo6 than i do with Freesat or even my ebay aquired Talktalk DN370 lol
Where did you get that deal from? I've got the £19.99 fibre deal but no calls included in that !!!
I did get a free new aerial installed out of freeview when they p++sed about with Crystal Palace though !!
If you've lost channels then contact FREEVIEW and get them to send out an engineer and maybe replace the aerial FOR FREE if it's the move to unreachable channels due to the new frequencies being used.!!!
WHO WANTS 5G anyway ??
Interesting didnt know you could get free freeview aerial when they muck about.
Yeah 5G just like those fannyboy razors with vibrating, lubrastrip and 5+ blades lol
I am old school , quite happy with 3G.
Deal is here good website for finding cheap stuff especially computer gear, networking stuff etc
Actual talktalk website link is here:-
You sure you want to check it out - dont want you to feel gutted dude!
Includes the new Sagecom wif hub Ive been hearing good things about - cant be any worse than the Superhub 3.0.
Also get some discount on overseas calls and a free tv box if you want it.
Also got £50 cashback with TOPCASHBACK as well
Re the aerial phone FREEVIEW The mobile guys and government pay for it and sometimes you have to be persistant. Make sure that you have done a retune without aerial connected then retune with it connected.
I think that they are realising the HUGE co+k up that the whole thing has been and according to the Engineers, they were having to call in installers from all over the country, I believe Crystal Palace was one of the first and costs had apparently already exceeded the estimates for the whole country by then !! . I needed a "type A" aerial until the change and Wideband "wasn't recommended". After the "upgrade" Wideband aerial needed as the MUXES were out of range for an "A type" aerial, so no signal on many channels including some BBC HD ones.
Thanks for the info I've gone for it. Didn't get the cashback as I didn't notice that bit until I'd done it !!
I'm on my 3rd Sagecom router as they keep reducing speed and restarting every 2-3 months.and I already have TTplus Boxes.I also have 4 free HUMAX boxes.
How did you manage to get out of yer contract and get that deal?
I thought you were already on £19.99 thats pretty good going - trying to get anything from Virgin is a joke!
You sound like me - I have two DN372T to makeup for losing the Tivo-6 and a Skybox F3 with full free c-line as well as a customised satellite pc box and motorised 1.2m dish on the roof but to be honest i hardly watch sky - ive got all the channels for free and probably watched sky a handful of times this year!
I am considering a Freesat box to fiddle with but the problem is they are all way out of date with only two tuners - I am waiting for them to catch up with the Tivo-6 and Sky 6 tuner jobbies. The thing i really like is the ability to set the recordings when abroad or out of the house which the poor old Talktalk DN372T cant do. Its where Talktalk are really lagging behind - they even changed the firmware on the DN range and made the things even worse.
Thanks for the info on the tv aerial - its amazing there are loads of tv repair guys on forums recommending folks get their tellies fixed and this is actualy a freeview aerial problem!
I didn't, I just followed the link from the your post, Signed into MY ACCOUNT and up came the deal so I just went for it and the free calls. I've had 2 E-mails one confirming the 18 month free calls from Midnight (sent at 3.43 so I'm not sure if they mean that it's live now or Tomoz) 4th change this year. Result, Payment to TT 11 May - £59.46 and on 11 Oct. £29.99 !!! Should be cheaper from next month and I'll get free calls too.
I must confess to being a bit of a NOW TV fan, as there are usually cheap 2,3, or 6 month deals on the passes and you can add mobile devices and take them with you on the move. You can also take their box to a mates house and watch there. I have 2 accounts one for the Cinema and one for the Entertainment as with that you get hundreds of catch ups and box sets so can use up to 4 devices on each by doing that. I have 3 of my HUMAX boxes and my tablet with Cinema pass and 3 NOW boxes and phone for the entertainment pass.
The transmission thing is being handled by FREEVIEW but the fund is apparently linked to the mobile guys under the 4g scheme No doubt the Government have said O.K. pay us billions for the licenses BUT you've got to ensure that all transmissions are viewable by all at your expense.
If you download the TT or YV apps (or both if you have 2 boxes) you can set recordings from your mobile or Tablet whilst out of premises by pairing device with the box (SETTINGS > MOBILE DEVICES), for some unknown reason the apps only allow you to pair one box per device but the box allows several devices to pair with it.You can also see what scheduled recordings are on the box and what is recorded already under MY TV from the options menu on the left hand side at the top.
Thanks I didnt know about the planner thats a new one on me!
I am only Broadband fibre and telephone with Talktalk.
Never took the TV option as my Freesat box has more channels and the two DN370/372 boxes should make up for losing the 6 channel record with the Tivo6 - Still, the Tivo6 is still the best PVR around imho!!!.
Still got a Tivo6 and Tivo500 you can still watch all the recorded shows but as my Virgin contract is finished no more recording or internet apps etc
At least with Talktalk the DN370/371/372T box still records and works as a PVR once you leave!
I was 20+ years with Virgin even worked as an engineer when it was NTL and staff had the proper tools and managers to do the job but its just a greedy ripoff now - I was paying £nearly 50 squid a month for fibre 200 and only getting 50, phone didnt work for 6 months last year and I got more channels on the old DN370 off ebay than I did with Player M on the Tivo6 - I will still miss the Tivo6 though and the remote network app on the pc - saves using the remote control lol!
Certainly the YV app will work with the box as it is a YV box even if you're not a TT customer, I'm not sure about the TT one but as it's basicly the same app it may well do.
If you're interested the Entertainment Boost is available for £8 Pm for 18 months from the boosts option in More TV.
I have the full SKY package for free but shhhhhh dont tell anyone lol
And I never use it, too busy playing with Arduinos and Vmware servers lol
Just a quick word, CHECK your MY ACCOUNT re the new deal as they tried to charge me £10 for the free phone bit.
Cheers for the heads-up Fred-e.
Just checked andt its £19.95 i think because I am a new customer.
Sad you loyal customers get the shaft but its even worse with Virgin!
20+ years I was with em even worked as an NTL engineer and they never gave me a decent discount!
Yes BUT DID YOU GET THE OTHER BITS FREE CALLS, WI-FI HUB etc. ???
Did you not get a free hub at least?
Must be because you are already a customer and have one of those Dlink jobbies!
I'm on my Third one I've had it since nearly it's launch back in April/May ish. I was just looking out for you and kind of returning the favour for the heads up on the link.
The TT system coc+ed up the order for a few of the people that I shared it with (myself included) as it hadn't been logged in to their system and needed to be manually sorted out. Also when I put it in for a friend who isn't with TT it only offered the Fibre, The router and their anti-virus (which seems to be more trouble than it's worth from the posts on here) I'll stick with Kaspersky Internet Security, just renewedat £9.99 for 3 devices which for some reason allowed a fourth.!!
Cheers for the heads up.
So you saying the Hub is rubbish?
I am quite looking forward to a new gadget im my server room lol
How does Talktalk take over a Virgin setup - do they do a drill/fit a new master socket or can they use the old Virgin setup?
Its the only thing I am a bit worried about - My OCD is bad for messy workmen who dont take their shoes off on my white carpet and someone messing around in my server room lol
My brother has had the Dlink DSL-3780 now since I recommended they go with Talktalk years ago and not a single glitch.
When I was working as sysadmin my fave AV was always Kaspersky and Sophos but then I did work for Sophos in the dim and distant past as a coder - great company to work for I miss it a lot!
Personally I would use a combo of AV and i just use em on demand no need to pay for AV these days just get a copy of Malware bytes, spyware blaster, Antivir or Panda etc they all use the same methods with the only difference being the heuristic algorithm and bolt on malware subroutines that you can get for free!
Then again I dont browse porn, torrent or warez - well at least not on my main pc , lol I have 11 other machines for that on my network. Just got a couple of lovely broken Dell E5530 laptop for £40 each last week got em up and running , very nice i do like the illuminated keyboard and the 16 inch screens and they are rather fast EVEN WITH 2gb sodimms - I guess my old Dell D630 is going to be used purely for OBD stuff now and the Dell D830 will do as a Forefront TMG server.
Geek-tastic I am afraid!
@omendata No they are great when working it sat solid at 40 Mbps DOWN and 8 UP but, mine have all been losing speed at after between 2-3 months. At first I thought that it was DLM but, just a restart bought back the 40 Mbs. 2 days later the same down to 30Mbps, pin reset and disconnecting from line for 40 mins, it all seemed fine then after about a week the same again, a factory reset from main router menu, the same again, after about a week it then began restarting itself every 30 to 40 mins with speed drops to 34, 30, 25, then 20. at which stage I just restarted it, back to 39.6 so not DLM. The same saga on the repacement so I'm now on my third one which is showing 39.8 Down 7.9 Up.
I haven't seen a dump VIRGIN reinstall although I should guess that the original O/R/BT wiring will still be there so I should I wold hope not much messy work will need to be done. I WOULD DEFINATELY PUT SOME of those Plastic decorators sheets down with the white carpets!!
Personally since they fully upgraded the software (I reckon it should be called firmware myself) the was only fit to be used as a doorstop 633 is great as an option and more stable than the D-Link DSL-3780.
I do have Malwarebites on the computer BUT I find that it has become a tad aggressive recently. I also use the original Spybot S&D.
