For the last week the freeview and on demand channels have been temperamental. They either restart half way through a programme, not play at all, lose sound or pause for at least 3 minutes between advert breaks. I did a system update and it seemed to improve, however tonight the box went off 3 times during a programme on ITV. Each time the box switched off I unplugged it at the mains and restarted it, this worked for about 20 minutes then switched off again. Do I need a new box?

Try Maintenance reset as follows:
Turn the box off, then unplug the power lead for about 10 minutes.
Re-plug in power lead.
You will then need to reset your personal settings (such as parental controls / ANTENNA OUT / Surround Sound etc.) and also reset your scheduled recordings (might be worth taking a note of future recordings before doing this so you don’t miss any).
It is also a good idea to restart your router once you have done this.
If you do NOT have any recordings that you want to keep :
Blue YV /Menu button on remote > Settings > Factory reset. This option will re-format the hard drive and reinstall the system on your box BUT you will lose all recordings.
