To TalkTalk

Everything was OK re WIFI until yesterday.

All my devices that used to be under 5GHz have now been put under 2.4GHz and vice versa.

Please disable WIFI optimization now.

Don't do it again.

Please stop connecting to my router at least once a day.

It is now rock solid.

Please ask Devices Team not to fool around with this.

Perhaps, they can include a toggle in the router, so a user can switch the feature off.

Perhaps, they can remove the 'WIFI optimization' feature.

Thank you again

Yes, that has been made clear above. Obviously, I will try to avoid 'factory reset'

Hi Bill

I will feed this back to the team. Just to advise, if you do factory reset the router then the WIFI optimisation will switch back on again.

Thanks again.

@Debbie-TalkTalk

It has been rock solid since 15.04.2024 10:41:16, which is just 1 minute before the disabling of WIFI optimisation.

Thanks @Debbie-TalkTalk

Now, while we are at it, could you please ask your Devices Team, to do less of that TR-069 connectivity, please?

Thanks very much

Bye

Bill

Hi Bill

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure why this has switched on again. I have switched the WIFI optimisation off again now.

Hi Bill

Have you factory reset the router since my last post this morning?

@Debbie-TalkTalk

It automatically changed back from 132 to 36 at 10:33:37

I changed it back from 36 to 132 at 10:41:16

Not a very nice game, is it?

Please re-disable.

Could you also check, that after you disable it, it has been disabled?

I don't see, why it matters to TalkTalk, what band frequency I am on, here locally.

Hi @Debbie-TalkTalk

I did another Factory reset late last night, then switched the router off until 9:25 AM this morning.

It took only 5 minutes at 09:33:47 AM for WIFI optimization to change the 5GHz band frequency from the pre-set 132 to 36.

And then you disabled WIFI optimization at 09:40 AM.

I've now changed it back to 132.

We will now see if it stays there.

Hello,

See Erro 6 Wifi Channel Problem and see how completely useless WIFI optimization is. It is a form of AI. And AI might be lucky and get some things right, but usually it will get things wrong. It's well and good for experimenters trying different AI experiments, but it is not well and good for the rest of us.

Thanks for reading

To @Chris-TalkTalk , or another of the staff team,

Would you please re-disable WIFI optimization? Late last night, I performed a factory rest on the router, as explained above.

Thank you.

Thanks very much.

Wifi optimisation ALWAYS comes back on after a factory reset, @Billx, or firmware update, so in those situations you will need to ask staff to switch it off again.

They are not back on here before Monday.

Hello,

I've just performed a factory reset, to get a lot of the gunge that had accumulated within the router.

Could you please ensure that WIFI optimization is STILL disabled, and has not been reenabled by the factory reset?

Thank you.

@Chris-TalkTalk

As I said above,

I had initiated two reboots this morning, 1, a warm reboot from my screen, and a second cold reboot by switching off the router for half an hour.

Could either of these reboots have reinstalled WIFI optimization?

Thanks

@Chris-TalkTalk

Anyway, thanks again for being able to disable WIFI optimization.

But it was like pulling teeth.
