RECORDING 2 FREEVIEW PROGRAMMES MEANS YOU CANNOT WATCH ANY OTHER CHANNEL

My wife records series of programmes 'ie the  bill, midsomer murders, casualty etc.' If it happens that 2 of them are on at the same time and I try to watch any channel I get the message that I cannot watch my programme unless I delete one of the recordings. Is this correct? and if so seems pretty low-tech in this day and age...

Yes it is. The box is a twin tuner, as are most YouView and freeview PVRs.

sometimes you can watch a 3rd channel, but it really depends on the broadcast mix and if there is the bandwidth.

you always have the TV tuner to fall back on to watch another programme.

Alternatively you may consider time shifting recordings to +1 channels.
