Set up port forwarding

Ports let programs on your computer connect to other computers on the Internet. When you forward a port, you allow other computers or devices to connect to your computer over your Internet connection, generally for the purpose of gaming, file sharing or connecting to wireless devices like CCTV.

To set up port forwarding you'll need to go into your router's settings and add the port forwarding details for the application you want to use. If you're setting up port forwarding to another device, like a wireless camera, you'll also need to reserve an IP address. Select your router from the below list for step by step instructions.

Which router do I have?

Your router's make and model is on the sticker on the back of your router. The make comes first (e.g. Huawei) followed by the model (e.g. HG633).

  1. Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 to go to the router admin page
  2. Login with your router username and password; these are on the sticker underneath the removable settings card on back of your Wi-Fi Hub Black
  3. Select the See internet settings button on the Dashboard page
  4. Now choose the Manage advanced settings button
  5. Select Continue on the advanced settings warning
  6. Select the Advanced Configuration option in the menu
  7. Select Forward Rules and then IPv4 Port Mapping

To check whether the port forwarding rules for your chosen application or device are already pre-set in your Wi-Fi Hub:

  1. Choose the New button
  2. Under Type, select the Application radio button
  3. In the Application field, select the drop-down arrow and choose an application
  4. Select the Apply button to save your changes

To add new port forwarding rules:

  1. Select the New button
  2. Type in the port forwarding details for your chosen application or device. Portforward.com is a good place to find these details
  3. Once all the details are completed, choose the Apply button

 

  1. Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 to go to the router admin page
  2. Login with your router username and password. These are on the sticker underneath the removable settings card on back of your Wi-Fi Hub
  3. Select the See internet settings button on the Dashboard page
  4. Now choose the Manage advanced settings button
  5. Select Access Control
  6. Select the Add Rule tab and scroll down to Add Rules Manually
  7. Type in the port forwarding details for your chosen application or device

 

OR

 

  1. Select the Games & Applications tab and choose from the preconfigured rules
  2. When you’ve entered all of your details, select the Add button
  3. To finish, choose the Apply button

 

Step 1 - Login to your router's settings

  1. Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 to go to the router admin page
  2. Enter your router username and password. You can find these on the sticker on the back of your Super Router

 

Step 2 - Reserve an IP address

  1. Select Settings from the top menu bar
  2. Select Network (LAN) from the drop-down menu
  3. Select Advanced Settings
  4. Under DHCP Table, choose Add Rule
  5. Select the internal IP address you want to use
  6. Type in the MAC address of the device you want to map to the internal IP address
  7. Select Apply

 

Step 3 - Set up port forwarding

  1. Select Features from the top menu bar
  2. Select Application from the drop-down menu
  3. Choose Add Rule
  4. In the Name field, enter the name of the application
  5. Enter the lowest required trigger port number in the Trigger Port Start field
  6. Enter the highest required trigger port number in the Trigger Port End field (for a single port, this number may be the same value as the Trigger Port Start)
  7. In the Trigger Traffic Protocol Type field, enter either All Protocol, UDP or TCP depending on the application
  8. In the Open Port field, enter the port number that needs to be open
  9. In the Open Traffic Protocol Type field, enter either All Protocol, UDP or TCP depending on the application
  10. Select Apply

 

Step 1 - Log into your router's settings

  1. Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 to go to the router admin page
  2. Now type in your router username and password. You can find these on the sticker on the back of your Super Router

 

Step 2 - Reserve an IP address

  1. Select Home Network from the top menu bar
  2. Select LAN Interface in the Home Network section
  3. Under DHCP reservation, select Create new static IP address
  4. Select your device or enter the device details
  5. Choose the Save button when you're finished

 

Step 3 - Set up port forwarding

  1. Select Internet from the top menu bar
  2. Choose Port Forwarding
  3. Under Port Mapping, select New Port Mapping
  4. Enter a name for this rule in the Mapping Name field
  5. Choose your application. If your application is not listed, choose Add port mapping application
  6. At the bottom of the application list, choose New
  7. Enter the name of the application
  8. Enter the start and end ports you want to open. Keep the number of external ports to a minimum. The internal and external port settings should be kept the same if possible to avoid conflicts
  9. When you're finished, choose Save

    2. Enter your router username and password 
      Your default username and password is admin

 

Step 2 - Reserve an IP address

      1. Select the Advanced tab in the left-hand menu
      2. Choose Ok when you see the warning box for advanced users
      3. Select LAN Setup from the left-hand menu
      4. In the DHCP Table section, type in your device’s MAC address and set the status to Static
      5. Choose the Save Settings button

 

Step 3 - Set up port forwarding

      1. Select Advanced in the top toolbar
      2. Select Virtual Server in the left-hand menu
      3. Enter the details for your chosen application. You can find these at portforward.com, just go to their list of programs and find your application
      4. Copy and paste the details into the relevant boxes on your router settings page
      5. If you need to forward the port to a specific device or PC, type in the IP address in the internal IP field
      6. Choose the Add/Apply button when you’re done
