Sky Q Download Fails due to DNS value

Yesterday the Sky Q user community received many questions all to do with customers not being able to download programs from Sky Cinema etc (Netflix etc was not impacted). Most of these questions were from people using Talk Talk broadband.

A Sky Q super-user posted a fix.   Either within the Sky Q box setup or inside the Router, change the value of DNS from 79.79.79.79 to 1.0.0.1.    This has cured the problem.

Did TT recently update routers, changing the value of DNS?   I personally entered the new value into the Sky Q network setup, leaving the TT Router containing 79.79.79.79.  My Router has a note above the DNS saying leave the value as non-zero in support of static IP.

"If the Sky Q box works when using the Cloudflare DNS server but not the TalkTalk DNS server, then it may be that the TalkTalk DNS server is not as up-to-date as the Cloudflare server."

This is exactly what Sky are blaming the whole issue on.......

It now appears  to be fixed - even though I returned my DNS to 79:79:79:79 from 1:1:1:1 which I tried last night !!

@ferguson

I too had the recording/downloading sky problem and was recommended to change my DNS to 1:1:1:1 rather than 1:0:0:1 which appears to have resolved the issue.....

@qw911

79.79.79.79 is the TalkTalk primary DNS server, the default DNS server for TalkTalk customers using a TalkTalk provided router.

1.0.0.1 is the Cloudflare secondary DNS server. [1.1.1.1 is the primary Cloudflare server.]

If the Sky Q box works when using the Cloudflare DNS server but not the TalkTalk DNS server, then it may be that the TalkTalk DNS server is not as up-to-date as the Cloudflare server.

TalkTalk is fine, when there are no issues, but getting issues resolved can be a real headache.
Incorrect information on TalkTalk help pages is unhelpful.
