Hello,

I just moved into a new appointment and want to order your broadband. But I am on Universal Credit. What phone number can I use to order the service?

The TalkTalk offering is for what the DWP like to call "Jobseekers" so will not necessarily apply to all those generally on Universal Credit. And some of those other social tariffs also have time-limited caveats. But I agree it would be good if more help was available for those in most need, whether we should be relying on Ofcom to "urge" providers to do that rather than something more resolute and robust is another matter.

They may, although Ofcom does not consider this a true social tariff and it has different eligibility requirements from a true social tariff.

Also important to note that the Talk Talk offer has the option of rolling onto a (regular?) contract with Talk Talk or leaving to another provider. Other social tariffs generally are designed to protect customers from bill shocks by doing automatic re-eligibility checking so people can stay on their social tariff without taking further action.

The OP may qualify for 6 months' free broadband, @Tunezy, if they apply through the JobCentre arrangement with Talktalk.

Talk Talk doesnt have a social tariff right now. Ofcom has been telling them to introduce one, and to waive fees for customers that do want to leave to move to a social tariff - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/news-centre/2023/half-of-low-income-households-in-dark-over-broadband-socia...

Maybe you want to look at other providers who do offer a social tariff as other providers offer them, and Talk Talk has been told off for being the only major fixed broadband provider without plans to offer one - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/260147/2023-april-affordability-of-communicatio...

There is also information available from Which that might be helpful to understand social tariffs available on the market - https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/broadband/article/all-you-need-to-know-about-broadband-social-tariff...
