How can I stop dozens of phishing emails coming into my Tiscali account

I still have my email Tiscali account which is registered with many web sites, organisations etc.

Over the past two weeks I am being flooded with obvious phishing emails all sent from gmail or googlemail accounts.

It is taking me ages several times a day to report these to report@phishing.gov.uk and phishing@talktalk.co.uk then blocking the sender, sending them to my junk folder then deleting them.

Is there any way to stop these?

I would like to reply to them with a few choice words and tell them they are wasting their time - I'm on to them, but of course I won't!

Silver surfer but been using and messing about with computers since MS DOS 5

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear this. Could you add your Tiscali Email address affected to the private notes section of your Community Profile please. Please do not post any personal information on the Community.

Thanks

Good to know that you are back in control of the unwanted Gmails.  My thoughts are with you for a good outcome with the unwanted cancer.

Maybe try doing what Gondola suggested with me - putting all gmail and googlemail into trash via an email rule - as long as u check every month you can then pick up anything legit ???

As to there's more important things in life - yes there are - I'm about to have a cancerous tumour removed and I don't want the bother of my phone pinging every 2 minutes when as u say there are far more important things in life - maybe rethink before flippant remarks like this ???

Gondola you are wonderful - so many thanks for your help - they do ease off in the evenings but do seem to be hitting my trash folder - which is good cos I can then just check every so often for any gmail emails that are not spam.  Thanks - you made me happy x

I have also been getting many of these recently to my Tiscali mailbox. Happily they usually have a subject line about a UPS  or similar parcel delivery which I know is bogus I forward them to the 2 report/phishing sites then spam & delete them. Sadly as all the senders addresses are different setting up a filter won't work - unless you go far a blanket filter on g.mail which I don't want to do.

Very irritating but in the grand scheme of things when watching the world news it's not the worst that could happen.

I wouldn't use the Discard action as that gives you no opportunity to review the filtered mail messages for some you may want.

Instead I would select 'File into' and the folder 'Trash' which gives you 30 days to review prior to auto deletion.

The condition needs to be amended to 'E-mail Address' 'Header From' 'Part Domain' 'Ends with gmail.com'

And a second condition 'E-mail Address' 'Header From' 'Part Domain' 'Ends with googlemail.com'

And the rule set for 'Apply rule if any condition is met'

Hi @Lissy

The only new aspect you're introducing into this topic is setting up Rules. Select one of the suspicious Gmails, select the triple dots (ellipsis) and from the menu select View source. Tell me what the email domain is contained within the <chevron brackets> on the From: line and also on the Return-Path: line.

Then show me a screenshot of the rule you've set up to deal with this email.

I'll take a look and see why it's not working.

I have had the exact same problem for about 5 days now - lots of spam emails all from either gmail or googlemail email addresses - all addresses different of course.

I am extremely careful about giving out my email address so can only assume someone has sold a list of email addresses including mine. I hope it's not another talk talk leak ?

I have tried going into my email settings on my webmail page and setting up rules to block all incoming emails from either gmail.com or googlemail.com - even though I have some friends who send via gmail.  I would rather just block the whole lot for now because it's getting ridiculous.

Despite setting up and applying message rules - this doesn't seem to be stopping them coming through.

Is there anyone out there who has any other suggestions, or that can talk me through setting up email rules in layman's terms - I don't know if my rules just aren't working or what ??

Any help appreciated.

Lissy x

Bottom line is that when your email address is known to criminals you should expect to be targeted and the only sure way of not being open to this risk is to delete the email address.

I am aware that TalkTalk has been blocking Gmail senders that have been detected as sending mail to email addresses that have been deleted or do not exist. i.e. the criminals are using TalkTalk email addresses from hacked accounts that no longer exist or just trying TalkTalk addresses at random.

It's up to Google to stop criminals using their mail servers or they will find that TalkTalk will take action to rate limit or block Gmail altogether.

You're doing a great job reporting to the UK Government suspicious email reporting service and to make TalkTalk aware. It'll all help to raise awareness of the current issues with Gmail.
