Tiscali emails in box & sent box not allowing categorie colour identification coding

I am now having to use outlook 2019. On my old system which used outlook 2007, I could add a colour identification tag to emails in the In box or Sent box. I can still do this with my other hotmail or Outlook emails however the Talk Talk Tiscali emails from and to your servers do not allow this as the colour categories box on my ribbon remains "greyed out".

Is this something to do with using IMAP & not POP3?

Please state why i am not able to do this using Talk Talk as my ISP.

Thanks

I cannot see how you have Outlook 2019 configured. I know that Outlook 2016 did not allow IMAP colour labelling but did allow POP3 colour labelling. Is it the same for Outlook 2019? You'll have to test that. I don't have a copy of Outlook 2019 to test with.

My TalkTalk Mail webmail is just an example of using conditional filtering and colour labelling and what works and doesn't work via the IMAP protocol. Some mail services support User defined flags but not TalkTalk.

Here's what Microsoft give as an example of conditional filtering and colour labelling for Outlook 2019.

Hi Gondola

To clarify, I do not want to add a colour to my web mail as i only use web mail as a reference or when i am away from homeas It is not that user freindly..

The colour identification is for my purpose only as a means of identification for various emails received locally in Outlook 2019. i cannot therefore still understand that having received an email from your servers in outlook why i cannot colour code it. The method you use to receive and send emails via an ISP surely should not effect how that email is finally used in outlook 2019?

On the current TalkTalk Mail webmail software 7.8.4 there is the ability to use multiple colour labels for emails and to flag emails with a gold star. I use this technique with filter rules so my labelling and flagging is automatically applied to mail messages as they arrive in the Inbox. See below for the example. Gold star flag for the email category, Blue for TV, Dark Green for Fibre broadband etc.

Colour labbelled and flagged emails

You can do the same locally in Outlook for mail message categories. The IMAP protocol does not support the colour labelling for categories. The IMAP specification does include 5 specific flags but the only colour flagging via IMAP is flagged or not flagged. The TalkTalk Mail servers support the IMAP specification for the following 5 flag keywords: \Answered \Flagged \Draft \Deleted \Seen. There's no support for user-defined flags.

For example, I automatically apply colour labels for categories of messages in TalkTalk Mail webmail and gold colour star flag for the email forum messages. The only flagging that is supported by IMAP is the gold colour star flag and when the emails are picked up by Thunderbird the IMAP flagging with the gold colour star is displayed but not the colour labelling because there's no transport mechanism via IMAP for those labels. Outlook supports the standard IMAP flags so any mail message arriving via IMAP protocol with the \flagged keyword being set should indicate just like Thunderbird.

And just to add that Windows Mail also supports the IMAP \flagged keyword and shows this as a red flag not a gold star. As with Thunderbird the flagging can be cleared locally.

Moving this to the email message board, @oldtimer1. Staff won't look into the issue in the lounge.
