Mailbox Access on FTTP (Cityfibre)

Hi,

I have recently signed up to FTTP, however I can't find a way to setup a talktalk mailbox. I have a need to use smtp and spamhaus says this for my IP address:

It is the policy of TalkTalk Communications Limited that unauthenticated email sent from this IP address should be sent out only via the designated outbound mail server allocated to TalkTalk Communications Limited customers. To find the hostname of the correct mail server to use, customers should consult the original signup documentation or contact TalkTalk Communications Limited Technical Support.

From what I can tell the Talktalk outbound mail server is  smtp.talktalk.net but I can't work out how to setup a mailbox so I can authenticate to it

Thanks

Don't bother creating a TalkTalk mailbox even if you could. If in future you decide to move away fro TalkTalk your mailbox will cease to exist. Set up a Gmail or Outlook.com (Other free email providers are out there.) email address which can be used with what ever provider you wish.

Hi antuk, if you're not able to set up a new talktalk mailbox now then you won't be able to. This isn't going to be fixed I'm sorry to say.

TalkTalk say "All our plans include TalkTalk Mail at no extra cost" but the issue is that Full Fibre customers haven't been given access to create new talktalk.net addresses. The creation of new talktalk.net addresses is via MyAccount Manage Email. The link will take you to your TalkTalk login and TalkTalk Mailbox page where there is a yellow banner indicating "Functions not available" i.e. not able to add an existing or new email address to the TalkTalk Mailbox list - even though there's also a legend saying "Add and remove existing or new mailboxes to your list and update passwords."

If you feel unhappy about not being able to create up to 5 new talktalk.net email addresses for TalkTalk Mail then start the complaints process.

Yes im aware of all that - my issue is I can't setup a mailbox as the option is missing under my account so the TT instructions dont seem to apply/are out of date for FTTP. So I need to know how to setup a TT mailbox on a FTTP service.

TalkTalk block port 25 to prevent the use of unauthenticated insecure mail sending.

If you have an existing TalkTalk Mail domain email address then you can send email from that TalkTalk email address using the host name smtp.talktalk.net via port 587 using the STARTTLS command to invoke TLS1.2 secure encryption and the outgoing authentication is with the User Name as the full TalkTalk email address and Password as the TalkTalk email address password.

TalkTalk do not offer to authenticate the sending of personal domain mail.

I ran a check on my ip address with spamhaus and it says all access on port 25 is blocked unless you use the talktalk SMTP server.

My issue is I dont have a talktalk mailbox, so can't authenticate to the talktalk SMTP server - I need to know how i set one up, the instructions on the website don't seem to work/apply for FTTP connections

Are you asking because the sending of non-TalkTalk mail was rejected?

TalkTalk's outgoing smtp mail servers will authenticate only the secure sending of TalkTalk mail. There's no authentication offered for the sending of personal or non-TalkTalk domain mail.

The sending of personal domain mail is normally achieved via the smtp servers provided by the mail hosting service for personal domain email addresses.
