4062 handset locked searching

Have just acquired extra handset {on eBay] for my 4062 cordless phone. It looks in good condition but when powered on it is permanently in SEARCHING state. Have tried several times to REGISTER it with the base station per the user guide without success.

- any suggestions as to why this might be?

- is there a method to hardware reset the handset?

I'd suggest doing a google search as this is not a TalkTalk service issue.
