Very poor unusable WiFi yesterday evening--attributed to overheating router?

Hi.

 

From around 9-10pm yesterday evening our wifi was effectively unusable. This morning I used 'Chat' to get help from TalkTalk and was advised the problem was caused by overheating of the router and/or the OpenReach connection box, and that the problem was now resolved by action taken by TalkTalk person doing the Chat.

I haven't been aware of overheating being a problem before. The router had been streaming sport for an hour before the problem arose. I would like to know what steps the TalkTalk person took to resolve this issue remotely, and to know what steps I can take to prevent a reoccurrence.

 

Any ideas ?

Do you believe the router is over heating? Does it feel hot to touch?
