New issue, not sure when it occurred but when I now try to login direct using this Community login options I use my email address and password. A one time code is then supposed to be sent to my email address to input on the next screen.
The problem is that no email is being received. I've retried this four times in the last 48hrs and the result is the same - no email code received.
Obviously I've check my spam folder although my email client is (and does) mark what it 'thinks' new spam and is not supposed to send anything to the spam folder or trash unless I've created a specific message filter to do that. Obviously, again, I don't do that for any TalkTalk email communications.
The only way I've found to login here is to actually login to my TalkTalk account first which provides the option to use my registered mobile to receive the one-time code. The same thing happens there also when I try to use the email login option.
That mobile 'phone code message option is not provided as far as I can see on the login pages here. The question is why, when my confirmed/registered email address is being accepted up to the one-time code screen but nothing is being received in my inbox?
How can something that has been sent to the correct email address not be received immediately? Even if there was some odd delay for whatever reason it would still turn up eventually and I think 48hrs is more than enough time to wait and none of them have.
Of course it was caused by an inexplicable delay it would useless anyway because the code has a very short expiry time.
If we must have this this double layer sign in security wouldn't a mobile text message sign in option provided here be a good idea anyway?

OK, thanks, @Cluster-Lizard
I am trying to avoid manual 'Not Spam' and Thunderbird 'learning' and trying to find a different way of doing it.
I haven't had any problems with the one-time-code.
Thank you,
Bill

I'm not sure what settings I used, possibly I just marked them as simply "not spam" from the context menu and Thunderbird spam filtering 'learned' from that. I'd also point out there could have been Thunderbird version issues involved, although I'm pretty sure that was not the case.
Whatever the problem was with the same PC and Thunderbird version the one-time ID validation emails are now appearing in my Inbox in the normal way they should.

Hi, @Cluster-Lizard
In the previous discussion, some months ago, you had mentioned, that when using Thunderbird, you are able to force emails initially directed to the Spam folder, to be directed to the Inbox folder, and then received within the Inbox of your Local Folders. Can you please help me. What are the main ingredients to achieve this?

@Cluster-Lizard Thank you so much for confirming the issue is now resolved:)

Just left it for some time 😀 and pleased to say that today when I needed to login in here for the first time since then I received the email one-time ID code pretty much immediately and had no problems logging in.
Belated thanks for the help for doing whatever fixed the issue.

Hi there @Cluster-Lizard are you still experiencing the issue?

@Cluster-Lizard, I have sent a chaser to the forum manager as there have been increasing problems over the past month.
Please wait for staff to reach your thread as they are not on here at weekends and each post is delaying the progress of your thread in the queue meanwhile.
I do find I can overcome the delay by getting my Yahoo mail to check back 6 months worth of Talktalk emails, and that makes it draw up the new one without further delay.
on 20-04-2025 03:16 PM
I checked my emails over the day after I tried my previous email logins (19.04.25) and there was nothing in the Inbox, Spam or Trash even at 03.00am-ish last night (20.04.25).
However later, around midday today, I checked again and there they were, the six login by email attempts from early in the day 01.20am-ish on 19.04.25 in my Spam folder. So it looks as if whatever the problem is it is taking at least 24hrs for the logins to appear there.
Again the fact they're in the Spam folder seems to prove it can have nothing to do with my email client (Thunderbird) as for just this sort of reason that is set up so that emails it 'thinks' are spam are still sent to my Inbox. In that case they will, as said, be marked as spam so I can see if any mistake has been made before consigning them to the Spam folder and eventual deletion manually.
So the problem must be occurring earlier in the process and it would seem involve TalkTalk email arbitrarily labeling the login email ID verification codes as spam. But why there is the, suspected at least 24hr, delay before they even appear there I won't speculate.
Something is broken somewhere and it looks like it is at TalKTalk's end.

OK, @Cluster-Lizard
Now, it makes a lot more sense. Thank you.
I think a lot of other TalkTalk customers, have been required over the last 2 years, to register a non-TalkTalk email address (onetel.com email address is a TalkTalk email address), as the username when logging in to MyAccount. I assumed that, for yourself, when I made my first comment. I myself chose a gmail.com email address.
The change was to decrease the problems when using TalkTalk's own email addresses.

I use my registered onetel.com address for everything connected with TalkTalk.
As I mentioned in my last post I tried to login again here last night by email one-time ID code and unlike the first time which prompted this thread those attempted logins have not resulted in any emails in my Inbox, Spam or Trash folders yet and those should have been received over 12 hours ago.
I'd should also point out that with the My Account login to TalkTalk you have to type in your registered email address at the first stage of the login and if that was not being recognised it would reject it at that point. It doesn't - you're told that a one-time code has been sent to that address but, as said, it doesn't arrive.
You then have to opt for the "passwordless" login option after which you're given the option of mobile phone text message or email. Again if you choose the email option it doesn't arrive but the mobile phone text messaging usually works perfectly first time.
I have no problem receiving other emails from TalkTalk using the same email address ie. monthly service DD payments, offers etc.

Hi, @Cluster-Lizard
OK, it's obviously a different problem to what I thought it might be.
EDIT: Even though I don't have solution, do you mind if you can tell us, which email domain and therefore email address you normally use (as the TalkTalk username) to login to your TalkTalk 'MyAccount', obviously in both your email client and your mobile phone?

Strange thing - yesterday's one time ID email codes did eventually turn up in my spam folder showing the time and date as when they should have been received.
Problem is that they were not received then, 100% certain of that but I retried just now both using my email client and, for the first time in ages, signing in to TalkTalk email directly. I had both open and tried to sign in using the email one-time ID code option and it is now 10 minutes since then and neither my email client or TalkTalk email is showing anything new in my inbox or for that matter the spam or trash folders.
Again I've had to sign into TalkTalk: My Account using the mobile 'phone option to be able to post this here.
I've now just closed both email access options (same, registered email address/account) and rebooted my email client. There is still nothing there and by now the ID code has expired so would be useless even if it did arrive.
If it was my anti-virus 'Mail Shield' that was the issue it would not have let the previous emails through if it thought they were dodgy even after a delay. On top of that the logs show nothing has been blocked/quarantined anyway so I think that can be discounted as the cause.
Something odd is going on.

Hi, @Cluster-Lizard
You say, 'I use my email address and password' to log in to TalkTalk Community
You don't say which email address you use. Is it your only email address?
From my experience, to login to the TalkTalk Community, I have to use the same email address and password, as I use when I login to the main TalkTalk MyAccount. There is no alternative. And this email address, again from my experience, must be a non-TalkTalk email address. The one-time passcode sent by TalkTalk Community is sent to that same email address. You then copy the OTP sent, from that email address and paste it into the second window of the Community login.
You could confirm this, if it is the same in your case, and we are on the same track.
As for as the OTP going into the spam folder, you said that you checked in your email client, to see if it's gone in there.
You can't always rely on the email client to get everything from the spam folder, sometimes it doesn't.
You should use your browser TalkTalk webmail to check your spam folder again.
EDIT: Regarding logging in to your TalkTalk 'MyAccount' first, in order to login to TalkTalk Community.
Once you are logged in to MyAccount, all you do, is go to the bottom of the MyAccount page, and look for 4 links next to each other. Click the last one of the 4, 'Help', and the system will take you to TalkTalk community, then click on the avatar/community to log in. You don't need any mobile phone.

@Cluster-Lizard, I wouldn't normally be using a password - just the email address and then pick it up from your email inbox. Return to fill in numbers.
The code might be going to Spam.
Mine reaches my inbox, but I often need to hurry it up by pretending to search "for more emails". It comes in fine if I search for Talktalk "up to 6 months" rather than just living in hope.
The system is simply at the mercy of the speed of email services whatever provider you might use for receiving these emails - mine get delayed coming to Yahoo.

I have asked one of TalkTalk's support to pick your thread up and investigate it for you.
They aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday - Friday), excluding Bank Holidays. The posts are responded to in time/date order, oldest first.
