Tiscali emails no longer accessible via MS Outlook

I also have an old Tiscali.co.uk email address but I still have TalkTalk as my ISP.

As from 20th January I am no longer able to download these emails to my MS Outlook despite attempting to change the settings as requested.

After 6  phone calls and three weeks, I was told by a TalkTalk operative that there was no point trying to do this because with a Tiscali address I will no longer be able to receive emails and that this was being rolled out to all Tiscali email address holders. He told me I should never have received the email telling me to change my settings - and yet I have just received another email. Is he correct? or another example of TalkTalk talking rubbish?

Thank you so much, you're a star.

All back to normal as from today.

Hi Lizzy8, I've added your mailbox to those to be restored to normal function. Please allow 48 hours for the change to complete.

Thank you for this.

I'm using MS 365 so as up to date as I can be.

I was variously told on different calls that -

 - it's an external problem in your area

 - it isn't your server settings

 - are you using up to date version of chrome

 - we've accidentally changed something and need to fill in a form to rectify - wait 3 days and call us back

Drives me to despair.

Any help to resolve this would be most welcome

Misinformed by TalkTalk.

If you are unwittingly still using insecure encryption settings on any device that's connecting to your mailbox, other than webmail via an up to date browser that's secure by design, then that will have been logged and you were notified by email that the continued use of insecure settings would mean your device connection would be withdrawn. Which is what's happened.

What version of Outlook are you using? Only Outlook 2016 or later is recommended by TalkTalk. You do need to update the settings to use secure mail encryption on all devices and mail collection services connecting to your mailbox. And if you have Outlook 2016 or later updated to secure settings then I can ask TalkTalk to restore access to get you back in action.
