Unable to send emails with Outlook

It seems I have to start a new thread to get this problem resolved (thank you NickCox99).

I can receive emails from both my lineone.net and tiscali.co.uk addresses, but I get an error whenever I try to send an email - it just sits in the Outbox unsent. I have changed the outgoing SMTP server to talktalk.net (previous settings were tiscali and lineone) with no luck. My private notes have my addresses in, as recommended. Over to you Ady-TalkTalk, is there anything else I should do, or will everything be OK once my accounts are re-activated?

Kev, the reason for the connection error is that your version of Outlook is not using TalkTalk's recommended secure email settings.  You're still using the outgoing SMTP port 25 that is now blocked by TalkTalk to prevent the continued use of insecure outgoing mail.

I recommend you recheck to make sure your version of Outlook is not older than Outlook 2016 and the Operating system is not older than Windows 10. Older versions are a security risk and are not supported by Microsoft nor recommended for TalkTalk Mail users.

Please recheck the Outlook outgoing server / advanced settings again to ensure the outgoing SMTP server port is 587 and encryption is STARTTLS.

I see you updated the outgoing SMTP server host name to smtp.talktalk.net and that is correct for all TalkTalk Mail domains including Lineone and Tiscali. You'll also need to check that you've ticked 'My outgoing server requires authentication' and I recommend using the Log in with User Name and Password being the full email address that you're sending from. i.e. if sending Lineone email then for that email account the SMTP User Name is the full Lineone email address and Password is the Lineone email password.

If you need further help then let me know.

Hi Kev, your mailbox if its the one you registered on here with has full service. You should have no trouble sending as long as you're now using the secure settings.

Hello Chris

Yes, I made sure those settings are correct. Reading similar threads on here it seems that my accounts need to be re-activated, because of the recent changes to security within Talktalk
