Following TalkTalk changes today I can no longer access on my iPhone (IoS 12.5.7) or via Windows 10 Outlook.  I have followed the instructions given exactly.  On Windows 10 I only have a POP3 option, but neither the incoming / outgoing mail servers work.

If you've continued to use Outlook 2010 or any other mail collection service or email software or apps using insecure settings and that's been detected by TalkTalk then your mailbox may be restricted once more. Trying variations of settings isn't wise.

I can't say how happy TalkTalk will be at having to repeatedly unrestrict mailboxes. But I'll give you the settings that must be set up in Outlook 2019.

Outlook 2019 supports secure mail and to update go via the Advanced setup settings of an email profile, as in this example for Windows 10.

  • Select the  Windows icon bottom left
  • Select the  Settings cog icon
  • Select Accounts
  • Select  Email & Accounts and for a first time setup select Add Account and enter the settings in the table
  • Or select the email account
  • Select Change account or double click on the email account

At that point on your device you ought to see the Outlook setup to enter the TalkTalk Mail server settings: NB All talktalk domains including lineone.net use the exact same IMAP secure settings.

Supported settings for IMAP email accounts are:

Account Type  IMAP secure
Username Full TalkTalk email address
Password TalkTalk email password
Incoming mail server mail.talktalk.net
Incoming Port (IMAP) 993
Incoming Connection Security SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail server smtp.talktalk.net
Outgoing Port 587
Outgoing Connection Security STARTTLS
My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication Yes
Authentication Method Login using Username and Password (Not SPA)

You should be able to get the settings to save ok.

On Friday I lost Outlookemail access (2019, running on Windows 10) having managed to restore it 2 weeks ago.

I have check the in / outgoing server settings that you provided   I have tried most variations of your settings (Outlook 2019 / Windows 10) with Outgoing Mail set at StartTLS and SSL/TLS.   I'm not clear why this suddenly stopped working on Friday, but please advise how to fix again.

All good so far. I don't see the incoming server port that I assume will be 993 for an IMAP email account.

The key question is you've presumably tested receiving mail in TalkTalk Mail webmail and if that's working then I believe the phone should also be working.

Ok so far.

Now select the SMTP Outgoing Mail Server and show that screenshot.

Then go back and select the Advanced selector and show that screenshot. In both cases make sure you obscure the first part of your email address.

On 20 Feb Ady requested full access for your mailbox.

On 21 Feb you reported access was back. However you are still using Outlook 2010 that is not supported by TalkTalk Mail.

You assert that the iOS settings on the TalkTalk website do not work but you haven't shown us the screenshots that would show us what settings you are using.

Please take screenshots of the iPhone's incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of your email address and upload here using the picture icon above this Teply area we can advise you.

Just one mail box - @Lineone.net.  Have changed the inbound mail server to mail.talktalk.net, but have not received any emails on iPhone for 2 weeks now.

Hi SClarke, the email address in your profile has full function. Is there another mailbox that needs sorting?

I've now been without email on my iPhone for 12 days.  8 days ago email was restored for Outlook.

Why does  mail.talktalk.net for inbound email on iPhone not work?

Yesterday evening I began receiving emails again via my 2010 Outlook (the comments that the new server configuration will not work with Outlook 2010 are incorrect).

Unfortunately the iPhone settings on your website (IoS 12) do not work - I can send an email from my iPhone but cannot receive emails.

Please advise

If TalkTalk have sent you a notification saying that your mailbox has been limited to webmail access because of continued use of insecure settings then the email software will not be able to authenticate a reconnection to the mailbox until TalkTalk restore full access.

Until that happens use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an Internet browser.

Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail

Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.

The iPhone is capable of secure settings. Guide given below. What's the version of Outlook? I hope it's Outlook 2016 or newer. I'll give you a guide to the POP3 setup in due course.  Also, do you use any other method of viewing your mail messages? Mail collection service, desktop, laptop, notebook, tablet, other phone?  All methods must use secure settings.

A request will go in in for access to be restored. That'll happen next week. TalkTalk Support will respond here.

Prepare for TalkTalk Support - include in the Community Profile (not in these public posts):

Account holder name, TalkTalk home 'phone number (if not Data Only broadband)

Alternative mobile contact number. Full address with postcode (in the Location box)

Scroll down to Private notes to add the email address needing restoration and your customer account number

Check and Save changes

Select here: Update your profile
