Router broken or not connecting to the internet - you can still get connected in an emergency.

I have seen this mentioned in other threads but not discussed in detail so thought it best to start my own.

Am I correct in thinking  that if your Full Fibre  router breaks or will not connect to the internet   but the ONT is working and  the ONT lights  are showing green  you can connect your device directly to the ethernet port on ONT giving you internet access through the Ethernet cable while you wait for a test router to be sent, could someone confirm that is the case.

Edit to add - I tested this myself and in post #10  i explain how.

Please note this  guide is only  meant for the rare occasions customers are having trouble with their routers if any of the lights that are normally green on your  ONT have gone out its unlikely to be the router that's at fault you will need to contact support.

I got my son to use his laptop instead of PS5.

We disconnected the Ethernet cable from the back of the router and the green LAN light on the ONT went out we connected the ethernet cable to the laptop and the LAN light on the ONT came back on we then ran a speed test and got 150Mbps down so no loss of speed.

If you don't have an Ethernet port you can get an adaptor - Amazon.co.uk : ugreen ethernet to usb

From my first post in the thread -

Please note this  guide is only  meant for the rare occasions customers are having trouble with their routers if any of the lights that are normally green on your  ONT have suddenly gone out and the router has stopped working  its unlikely to be the router that's at fault you will need to contact support.

I took the screen shot below with my phone to show Ethernet connected and Wi-Fi off.

( Apologies for the poor  picture quality

I can assure you it works. Get yourself a long ethernet cable, useful for testing and in emergencies.

Why not try it I was going to suggest, but I then did a google search and the answer is yes, you can.

I will give it a try tomorrow and see if it works.

Looks like i am going to have to let someone else be the guineapig non of my stuff that is small enough to carry to the ONT to test it  has an Ethernet port.  🙂

Ah OK. As long as it's the router that fails, rather than the internet connection as you say.

Are you having any issues with your router at present?

No my connection has been fine but it will be nice to know if anything did happen to my eero  i could use the ONT directly to gain access to the internet,  many people depend on their internet for work if they lose it at the weekend its going to be Tuesday or Wednesday before a replacement router can be sent to test having one working ethernet connection  would be a lot better than having no connection at all.
