Hi,

My parents have FTTC and  use a landline often  they were unaware copper is due to be switch off  in the not too distant future so i  suggested they move to full fibre 150 with digital voice  having read the post below earlier i am now wondering if they should wait as i dont want them to have to pay £12 on top of FF150 to keep using the copper line for the phone.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

If you have copper leave behind, you are OK for your landline for now, @Confused121

They are behind schedule for switching those with copper to VOIP, so, despite an ominous warning about a £12.00 charge for those keeping it, they are so behind,  you are all good for now.

When it's essential to upgrade to VOIP, it is likely to be a free upgrade, so you shouldn't need to worry about price increases. They won't now inform you about the options till they can start to keep up with the work as they are currently too far behind schedule to offer any realistic time frame.

The leave behind option was offered in situations where VOIP was not possible at the time, @DJI_MINI_2_SE  - not so much because people preferred it, but because VOIP was not available.

The problem, now that Talktalk has to get all these people switched over to a VOIP inclusive product, is that they can't keep up with demand.....of course people rushed to apply to avoid the £12 extra per month [and that's before calls after all or the boost]!

If copper leave behind is the only option at the time of ordering, then the line is likely to still be inclusive in the package fee as now - you'd need to check that detail for them, and, as always, speak to an agent directly through phone / Chat.

Don't do a single click order through My Account etc as these don't detail the nuances of the package. You'd want to check TV charges; voicemail charges; supersafe etc, so all the fine tuning of what is or is not included.

Remember also that there can be mid contract admin charges etc, if not a set up fee.

Think carefully about the speeds they would really need - the simplest router comes with Full Fibre65, so, if they don't need faster than that, they can simply plug the landline into the socket at the back of the router. That's more straightforward than the Digital Voice Adapter and Eero etc.

But it only allows one plugged in phone. Their traditional extensions won't work, but digital phone sets will.

But the big but is suitability with panic buttons, or other alarm systems in their home. For the elderly, it's worth hanging onto their FTTC for as long as possible to give all the technology for all the safety gadgetry, time to catch up with the consequences of VOIP, and VOIP to catch up with the needs of the elderly.
