Please advise Talktalk email settings to be able to access through Microsoft Outlook after September 24th which requires modern authentication Oauth2.

Thanks

Hi @mickb0708

I do not work for TalkTalk, I am just a customer. These changes do not affect TalkTalk email domains such as talktalk.net. Therefore this is not a TalkTalk problem.

This is purely a configuration issue between your email client(s) and the Microsoft email domains:-

  • outlook.com
  • hotmail.com
  • live.com

Not using any of those domains myself, I have not had the Microsoft email on this subject.

If you have any further queries about this, then please contact either Microsoft or your email client's support teams. TalkTalk cannot help with this, sorry.

From the 29th of March our TalkTalk Community will move to peer-to-peer support and the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry we still have plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link here How to contact TalkTalk Broadband - TalkTalk Help & Support

The changes are not very clear to the layman.

I'll change Outlook settings to modern authentication and assume TalkTalk mails won't be accessible.

For anyone reading this post I find the Blue Mail App on Windows and Android works well for TalkTalk.

Keith, perhaps TalkTalk should issue a general update email to all customers clarifying exactly what this means and what the options are.

Thanks

Towards the end of the notice it says:

1000002694.jpg

So we can find our way back via webmail - that takes the panic out of this.

I have a Hotmail.co.uk address (they encouraged us to move from Hotmail.com c 20 years ago....)

Not clear in this article whether my address is affected.

No idea whether my default Samsung email app is affected....

Presumably forwarding instructions from Hotmail should still work - but I need to get in to the account quite often to check for genuine messages that may end up wrongly in Spam and so don't get forwarded. So this all becomes clumsy, time-consuming and inconvenient.

A really badly handled change.

I don't even know if I received the message. I probably would have deleted it on sight, if it wasn't already in Spam, as it is the sort of topic that usually comes from scammers.

Hi @mickb0708

Near the start of that video, it mentions that if you have one of these email domains, then it will affect you:-

  • outlook.com
  • hotmail.com
  • live.com

These are the personal accounts mentioned, however, you connect to them.

Thanks Keith, I've seen this info and had the Microsoft email but there are tutorials on YouTube confirming this applies to all personal email accounts that use Pop or IMAP and must switch from basic to modern authentication. I guess Microsoft can't list all global email providers.

Please see this site where it states that this only affects the email domains below.

"If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th".

Are you sure? I access Talktalk email via Outlook and as far as I know TT email doesn't use modern authentication

Thanks

From what I have seen this only affects you if you have outlook.com or hotmail.com etc email accounts. Therefore this has nothing to do with TalkTalk email.

Hi mickb0708, I've have asked the question for you but doubt that we'll be publishing any details for that as TT email is residential.

I have not seen anything published by TalkTalk on this, therefore I have asked one of TalkTalk's support to pick your thread up and advise you.

They aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday - Friday) excluding Bank Holidays, but if more urgent you can always try the Service Centre on 0345 172 0088. The posts are responded to in time/date order, oldest first.
