I've had an email advising me of a 'free upgrade' to full fibre followed by a text with a date of 16th Feb.

Sorry about the length of the post.

I live in a bungalow with a pole 20m away across the street and the copper cable currently runs to the apex of the gable end of my house, directly into the roof space and through the ceiling to the kitchen and ADSL socket. The OR engineer was very accommodating and let me take the cable through the loft for him to terminate in the place I wanted it to be, next to a my preferred location for the router.

I suspect the fibre installation will not be as straightforward, there's the CSP to fit outside and it appears that the ONT has to be close to it on the inside wall next to a socket. It looks like the fibre will have to take a completely different outside route to the kitchen since it's unlikely that the City Fibre engineer will let me run the fibre through the roof space and I'm sure they won't fit the CSP at the apex of the gable wall anyway, it would also be about 8 metres from the ONT. I want the router in a similar position to the current one, high up and central to the building for best coverage. I want the telephone where it is in a different room on and extension cable. The installation guide suggests they have to be next to each other and that I need 3 power points together.

If you're still reading, I have questions;

Has anyone had any experience of a City Fibre engineer allowing customer involvement (like me pulling cables in the roof space)?

Does the CSP need to be close to the ONT?

Does the ONT need to be close to the router?

Does the router need to be close to the telephone?

Thanks for any help and advice anyone may have.

Hi there @Vitrocmax, yes, the engineer will ask you where you prefer the router to be located. I've also provided a link informing you how full fibre is installed below. Thanks

Others may add more detail, but briefly:

Q1  Yes, but there is some flexibility as to where you have the entry point;

Q2  Not necessarily, you can run a suitable length of ethernet cable to wherever suits you best;

Q3  Yes, because your old phone sockets will become redundant, the TalkTalk Hub has a voice port to connect to your phone.
