Changing phones & modem

We had a call from someone this morning saying they were from open reach. They said they were coming today to change our phones and modem and we needed to buy an apple card. If we don't do this today our phone will be disconnected at midnight. The phone number was private, so is this a scam please?

That's a scam. No way would you be asked to buy an Apple card, or to pay for anything concerning an upgrade from Openreach or TalkTalk.

 

The only thing you may have to purchase is a phone if your existing one is so old it would not work over VOIP, but then that would be advice given for you to source your own phone.
