Hi. I have a strange problem. My in-laws tried to contact us yesterday. When they rang the number they usually ring someone other than us picked up the phone. They tried again and the same person picked up the phone. Upon being informed of this I started to investigate.
1. I have no dial tone.
2. I cannot make phone calls from the house phone.
3. When I dial my number the other person's phone rings, mine does not.
When I got in contact with the person my in-laws talked to I was very suprised. She recently had a new land line installed and it was Sky who provided the line. It seems that, for some unknown reason, the engineer who installed her line connected it to my number by mistake.
We are still getting the internet part of our phone line.
I chatted last night with a representative of TalkTalk and have booked an engineer. I believe the engineer would be best going to the exchange to sort out the problem.
I don't think I have ever heard of this problem before and find it a bit alarming that my phone line can, even if it was a mistake, be connected to another house.
I look forward to this problem being rectified.

Hi. An update. The engineer has sorted out the problem and we now have a working landline.
However. I was told that the OpenReach engineer would be told to call me 30 minutes before he needed access to my flat. This didn't happen and I was told that information is NEVER passed on to them. It was lucky that he was able to fix the problem without needing immediate entry.
I am glad that everything is fixed though.
