Home phone (landline) still showing "Incoming Call"

For more than a year now, my landline suddenly stopped showing the names of those listed in my phone, to showing "Incoming Call" - it is very frustrating,  esp when the only help from TalkTalk is to invite me to repeat the steps findable online in relation to this issue.

Something at network level changed overnight in the labdline telephone service provided and endless advice to me (and, I see here, to many others) to disconnect X and Y isn't going to change anything.

I'd really rather TalkTalk 'fessed up to what happened, instead of implying it is something wrong with the equipment/usage of those many customers who have written about the same issue here.  Endlessly asking people to restart routers and unplug/plugin equipment is folly and a waste of time for both customers and TalkTalk's own staff.  For something to be such a widespread phenomenon across TalkTalk's network would very much suggest something systemic!

Thank you  - I appreciate your time on this today.

Maybe the current TalkTalk landline network is operating in such a way that it requires handsets "younger" than a specific year for full functionality to be possible.

I hope if anyone has solved this issue they'll add their solution here.

Once again thank you.🌷

I will keep the thread open to also allow other members to comment if there is any other information whilst I investigate.

Good thinking - but... your colleague in April mentioned that it might just be the handset, so I bought a new one! It is an early model BT 6500.

If you/colleagues have any more ideas on this, please do let me know.

I understand, if possible, could you get another handset to test. This is to check if the issue is not with your current handset because the diagnostics that were conducted on the 08/04/2025 no fault was found hence I had decided that we try these steps of trouble shooting caller display. Please if it is possible test with a different handset so that if the issue is with your current handset, it will be easy to know the cause.  Thanks.

Thank you for your time, Phili.

I disconnected laptop and television+firestick and switched off Wifi on my mobile phone -these are the only devices connected, in addition to the landline handset - and I'm sorry to say, it made no difference.

I am a long-time customer of TalkTalk and my caller display was fully functioning, with all these devices connected, for many years prior to some system update by TalkTalk that halted this functionality overnight, roughly a year or so ago.

You and your colleagues who have tried to resolve this issue for me in the past have all done your best, which I appreciate, but maybe its simply a systemic issue for legacy customers!

Thank you again.

Interference - sometimes faulty equipment or devices can interfere with Caller Display.

Try the following:

  1. Disconnect all your devices leaving just your phone attached.
  2. Test to see if Caller Display works.
  3. Now reconnect each device one by one, testing Caller Display each time.

If reconnecting a device stops Caller Display from working, that's the one that’s causing the interference. Try not to use it while you use Caller Display.

With the already checked Caller Display, I can confirm my mobile is shown as an Incoming Call.

Caller display is already checked - do you want me to uncheck/save and check/save?

Please try the below steps and try calling using your mobile to see if it will display your number.

  1. Log in to My Account
  2. Select Networks & Connections from the navigation menu
  3. Select My Telephone Settings
  4. Select Manage home phone Boosts from the dropdown menu
  5. Tick Caller Display in the Privacy features section

Could you please check if your caller display is on? You can do this by logging into MyAccount and go to the manage add-ons and features.

Hi Philile

Yes, I'm at home.

In the past your colleagues have had me do the router reset, telephone line disconnect thing and reported doing something to my settings, then telling me to wait 24hrs, after which absolutely nothing has happened!

I'd love you to try again!

Thank you!

Hi there @Slippers I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your services. In order for us to determine the possible cause I will have to conduct a diagnostics test. Are you currently at home?
