This appears to have been a common problem for other TalkTalk customers.
Since the system was updated recently, the call list on my home phone contains an entry every 30 minutes saying ‘No number’. The phone doesn’t ring when this happens.
This only started when the new fibre broadband was installed and the home phone was plugged into the new router.
