Do I need a TV aerial to get TalkTalk TV?

No ratings

All Freeview channels – and the information in the TV guide – are transmitted to your TV through your aerial. If the signal you currently get from your aerial gives you a stable picture and reliable sound, it should be strong enough for your TalkTalk TV Box. TalkTalk Boost channels, on the other hand, are delivered through your broadband router and don't require a TV aerial.

Ideally, it's best to use a rooftop aerial. They can pick up and transmit the best signals to your TV and are most likely to give you the best range of channels too.

If you need to have a new aerial fitted, you’ll need to hire a professional aerial engineer. We recommend you check that they are registered and qualified with the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) trade association or the Registered Digital Installers licensing body.

You can, but we recommend you use a rooftop aerial if possible. Indoor aerials usually give you a weaker signal and they may not be able to pick up the full range of channels. They can also be affected by other electrical devices in your home.

Again, the best way to find out is to test it yourself. If you currently receive a good digital reception with a portable or loft aerial, you should have no problem switching to TalkTalk TV.

It depends on the strength of the signal that the communal aerial receives. A good indicator is the quality of your current Freeview signal.
If you currently have good sound and picture quality on your TV when you are watching Freeview channels, it’s likely you can get TalkTalk TV. If your picture or sound break-up, your communal aerial might need to be checked by your landlord or housing association.
