What to do before the upgrade

Most Mail users will not need to do anything before the upgrade, however, there may be some steps that you need to take such as:

1. Set up your recovery details

Please make sure you set up a recovery email address and mobile phone number. This is important so we can send a reset code if you forget your password. Look out for instructions in the email.

2. Backup contacts &  calendar

If you use the calendar feature of the current webmail, you will need to store or write down events as they will not be carried over to the new TalkTalk Mail.

Below are some guides to help you prepare for the upgrade.

3. Message rules

If you have “message rules” set up, make a note of them as you need to reset them after the upgrade.

4. Signatures & filters

If you use webmail and have filters set up or an email signature, you'll have to make a note of these as they will not be carried over.

POP3 is an old set up that most email systems no longer support. To bring you the best experience, we recommend that you change your settings from POP3 to IMAP as soon as possible. An IMAP set up lets you automatically synchronise your emails on TalkTalk Mail to any device and will prevent your messages being duplicated after the upgrade.

To find out if you’re using POP3

  1. Go To File > Info > Account Settings
  2. Select Account Settings.
  3. Open the email account
  4. Check the Account Type under Server Information. It will say either POP or IMAP, if POP, you can change to IMAP by following the guide  Email settings - IMAP & POP3.

Please make sure you set up a recovery email address and mobile phone number. This is important so we can send a reset code if you forget your password. Look out for instructions in the email.

If you use the calendar or the address book feature in a third party application on your computer, smartphone or tablet, it will not be affected by the upgrade.

If you've forgotten your login password and this has been saved within your device/browser you can retrieve this by going into setting and following instruction for your device/browser as appropriate. Here's how to retrieve your: password on

Did you know about Password Manager? which is available with SuperSafe Boost. This application stores your passwords securely, can create strong passwords and you can use it across all your devices.

If you have associated email addresses (also known as Alias accounts), you will be able to login to TalkTalk Mail with these. Please follow instructions in the email.
