Online TalkTalk account auto log out

As there is no forum for 'online account', I am raising an issue with auto log out from online accounts here. I have raised the issue before (using a community account that has subsequently been anonymised), and was told it was passed to the relevant team. It has not been resolved.

After a period of inactivity on an online TalkTalk account, there is a count down, and subsequently a 'Your session has expired' popup appears. This states "You've been logged out of your account due to inactivity."

However, the account is not logged out. After placing the cursor in the browser address bar, and pressing Enter, access to the account resumes.

It gets worse. After clicking on the 'Log back in', entering a valid username and password combination (but not the ones for the account that was previously in use), and clicking on 'Log in', it is access to the previous account that resumes, rather than the one related to the newly entered username and password.

As I did not have any success with resolving this issue here (on this occasion or the previous), I raised the failure of auto logout to work as expected with the Complaints team. I had a call today informing me that an error has been identified in the code, which should be corrected by the end of July.

The existence of this error shows that the correct functioning, i.e. that the account is actually logged out, when the message says it is logged out, was never properly checked. That is an extraordinary oversight, especially as the purpose of auto logout is to ensure the account is not left logged in unattended, i.e. it is for the security of the account.

It is not a case of being logged back in. When the popup message appears, the account page can still be seen in the background, but it is blurred. As I stated in paragraph 3, access to the account resumes. This is because contrary to the popup stating  "You've been logged out of your account due to inactivity.", logout has not taken place.

I do not save passwords in my browser. The issue here is as I have previously stated, the account is not logged out when the popup message appears stating that is.

It is eventually logged out more than 10 minutes after the popup appears stating that the account has been logged out. If a popup message states that the account has  beenlogged out, there should not be a significant delay before it actually is logged out. It appears to me that something is wrong.

I would expect someone at TalkTalk to be able repeat this with a test account.

@nameunknown Are you stating that you are logged back on automatically without having to enter your details (Paragraph 3)? If you are being redirected to the account you previously used, please try to clear your browsing history and the passwords saved as this may be the main cause of the redirect to the previous account.
