Broadband, internet, intermittent and lights flashing. phone crackling

Hi.  I have an open case while Open Reach investigates.   On Saturday I lost internet intermittently.  Broadband and internet lights flashing or off.  Phone was very crackly.   I went to chat with your agent and eventually they confirmed it was a Network problem outside and booked an engineer.  I had a text message to say it would be done in a few days.     I actually received a text (not seen until Sunday) to say they had fixed the problem, which it wasn't so texted back to say not fixed and OpenReach said they would keep trying but to wait to hear from provider (TalkTalk).

I don't know how long to wait to hear, or what I should do but I have to wait for the broadband to connect and do whatever work I need to while I have it working.  It goes on and off randomly, but when it is on the internet light on router keeps flashing.   Speed is very poor.   The phoneline is so bad it is unusable so I am completely stuck  (I have a mobile but it is PAYG and expensive to use).

Can someone please check on the situation.

I have moved my router, rebooted it several times etc. etc.     sorry if I am asking this question too early, but I am so pleased to be able to contact anyone at the moment I thought I would see if anyone had an update.   (Or if anyone else had a problem).

No, if there isn't any issues with your services you should not worry.

Thank you.  In that case is there something wrong.      The internet light flashes about every 30 seconds all the time (night and day).  It flashes faster when I switch on PC, connected by ethernet cable but then continues to flash   all the time I am using it.   Is there anything I should do?      Everything seems to work correctly, i.e speed good, WIFI works on other devices, so is it a problem?

@GBy1231 the light should be flicking if the router is connecting to the internet and should be solid white once connected.

Thank  you for asking...    My speed has considerably improved, after I reset router as requested.   this was after a second engineer had been out to fix something else outside (on Thursday 18th I believe).   I subsequently reported slow speed and the fact that the internet light on my router was still flashing.      Having sorted the speed issue (by resetting router), I would just like to know if the internet light  should be flashing.  I was asked to let you have information on the router lights, but I have been unable to get round to this until now.

My HG633 router lights - Power, steady green.   Broadband - steady green.  Internet - intermittent flashing, which gets faster and more frequent when I am using PC even though connected by ethernet cable .   Wireless light - flashing (I assume when exchanging data somewhere?),   Ethernet light - off when PC off, flashing when in use, which I would expect.

So, my question is:    Does the internet light normally flash, or does this mean there is still a connection issue?  There may not be a problem of course  (although I did lose internet on my tablet for about 15 minutes yesterday, despite wireless saying I was connected).

I only ask the question because when looking on the internet, most people say the light should not flash with a stable connection.    Perhaps I should just leave it all alone and not worry about it!    I look forward to hearing from you.

Just got round to doing this.   thought I had lost wifi altogether, cos could not authenticate a device,   but now got it working.     Speed looks better at the moment.    The internet light is still flashing though.       No idea if it should be but it appears to be working generally.

@GBy1231, I will kindly ask for you to do the following for me on your router:

1) Switch your router on, if it isn't already.
2) Locate the reset pinhole button. This is usually on the back or side of your router.
3) Gently push a pin, a straightened paperclip or another appropriate item into the hole until you feel a click. Hold it for 30 seconds.
4) Any lights on the front of the router should turn off and come back on again.
5) Once your router has fully booted and any lights are on, you can reconnect your devices to your Wi-Fi.

Kindly confirm with feedback once done.

I am not sure if I should start another thread, but am updating you on this one.  Engineer came out on 17th September.  Eventually found that the connection at top of telegraph pole was completely corroded, so he replaced it and this fixed the unstable broadband light and also the really bad phone connection (unusable because of crackling).    I queried the fact that the internet light was flashing on router and asked if speed would increase.   He told me the internet light might flash depending on make and that the speed would improve.

On 18th September (morning) I did a speed test and speed was low and internet light still flashing.

I contacted your chat line and after going through all the checks etc.  they said there was a fault  on the line outside and an engineer was booked.    On Friday 19th there was a brief interruption to  the broadband and the phone was disconnected.  Thankfully came back very quickly.   I assume this is when the engineer dealt with the problem - a speed test showed speed was back up to 37 (fibre 35 speed) using ethernet cable so assumed all was well.    However, internet light still flashing.    On Saturday 20th, I used my second PC connected to WIFI and it was very slow - did not think much of it because usually slow in that room on that PC.     Today, 22nd used that PC and had a few issues, ran a speed test and it was 15 - tried my tablet next to PC and it was 20.    Took tablet next to router and it was still 20 (main PC on ethernet 37), so think it must be a problem with WIFI.

I have been told my case is closed (but still showing as open on website and I cannot run a test while it is open).   Question:  should the internet light be flashing and will this affect WIFI speed?   Is there anything I should do/check next. Once again, sorry to ramble, but  any help would be appreciated.

@GBy1231 I have looked into the account, and I can confirm that the case is still open on the system. An engineer was booked on the 13th of September 2025 which was on Saturday. The SLA for the engineer to come out takes 24-72 working hours, the engineer will be working on the local exchange.
