DHCP reservation problems - amongst others

Hi all,

I have a few problems that I have come across whilst trying to set DHCP reservations.
They may all be intertwined or it might just be coincidence!

I've searched the forum and there are a few posts about this, but none seem to have a final resolution published and therefore have been no help to me.

I have some cctv and I wanted to set reservations for these 6 items.

I log into my router and go to the LAN IPv4 page.

Firstly, I wanted to change the IPv4 pool end figure from .254 to .249.
I input the figures and save, say, yes I understand, to the warning about changing items and the page logs out and I end up back at the log in page.

I log back in and no changes have been saved.

I've tried a different browser.
I've tried clearing the cache.
No change, same thing still happens.

Secondly, I decided to just set the reservations without changing the end pool figures.
I input the MAC address and the ip address of the 6 items.
I click save and the same thing happens as above and the page logs out and I'm back at the log in page.
I log back in and no changes have been saved.

Thirdly, I tried a different browser and added just one item, then I pressed the add a new reserved address button again and got a second row to populate, which I left blank.
I tried to save it and it told me the MAC address was invalid.
I clicked the x at the end of the row to delete the row. It wouldn't delete. It also wouldn't delete the populated row.

Fourthly, today, after reading some of the posts, one mentioned a second page that they could populate the details for a device.  When I tried to find this I discovered once I'm on a page I often cannot then select a different page, for example, when I am on the device info>LAN page, if I click the maintenance page, sometimes that page will open and sometimes it doesn't.
If it does open, it opens on reset and if I try to select one of the other pages, it doesn't open another one. I was trying the software update page. It has already said my software is up to date, but I thought it was worth checking.  The pages are very slow to open when they do work, but I can see the page name change in the address bar and in a second it reverts back to the page I'm on, so I know it's not working.  These are the options I was choosing from.

Reset

Software Update

Internet Time

(NTP) Logs

I just relogged in to make sure I gave the correct path I took, so am on the device info maintenance page and it won't let me choose another page, so I cannot get back to the LAN page for example.
If I click the home page, nothing happens.

I have rebooted the router twice over the last few days.
I copied this from my account, for your information.

My router: Sagemcom-FAST5364

Good news, it looks like your router software is up to date.

These are the details of my firmware

Serial Number  N7211518E009687
Hardware Version  FAST5364 4.00
Software Version  SG4K100208
GUI Version  5.100.5

I have various pictures I have taken during my troubles, and a short video of me clicking save when trying to set the reserved addresses.

If you need any other info, want me to try something or want certain pictures ask away and I'll supply them.

Thanks in advance
Graham

Hi @skier-hughes

I have also tried that reduced scope & adding some more reserved addresses to the new 5359 (Wi-Fi Hub 3) without a problem. I know that the 5364 was a bit flaky with some firmware versions with V3 hardware, as I said. My last 5364 was also a V4 one & I had no IP addressing errors at all. However, that went back prior to the last couple of firmware versions, but it is near enough the same as the 5464. When I have seen your video, I will probably recommend it to be a faulty routerrather  than a bug, but we'll see.

Hi @skier-hughes

I have just tried this on a 5464 (Hub 2) which runs the same firmware. I first restricted the DHCP scope to end in .249 and clicked Apply. Then I added three DHCP Reserved IP addresses without any problems:-

Scope ends with .249 & 3 res addrScope ends with .249 & 3 res addr

I'll wait to see your video.

Ok, don't worry about this @KeithFrench as you've just answered it in a PM.  I'll upload a video at some point today.

Other than that, I need to see screenshots as a long description is very difficult to follow.

I'm sorry about overloading you. My pet peeve from answering forum queries for over 20 years was lack of information, so I try to be as precise as possible and therefore when I'm doing my questions I do my actions and write them out with the results of every stage.  I also try to think of every permutation of action, as often this will help.

Can you tell me what screenshots you would like to see and I'll add them.
I could take tens showing each stage of each process, so don't want to flood the feed.

It would be far easier if I could attach a video, but is this only possible by linking to a youtube video? Which I can do if it's the only way. This is my only option when clicking on the video button above this post. I cannot select anything other than Youtube, I have tried.

I don't think I understand you. Are you saying that saving DHCP Reserved addresses removes the router's IP address & subnet mask? What IP address & mask are you using?

Yes, exactly this.

I'm using the prepopulated addresses which are

ttrouter

192.168.1.1

255.255.255.0

Why are you trying to reduce the IP address range anyway? To add a DHCP reserved IP address, the address selected must be within the address range. It is only static IP addresses physically configured on a device that must be outside the range.

It is because I have static IP addresses of .250, .251,  .252 and .253

I am adding reserved addresses within the range of the new IPv4 pool start and end, for example one of them is 192.168.1.31

I didn't leave them blank.

When I log in and navigate to the page the fields are populated.

When adding multiple reserved items and it fails to save this is the sequence of events.

I press save

Press yes

It circles for between 20 seconds and a few minutes.

The page I screenshot pops up for about half a second and then disappears and I return back to the log in page.

The router is unpopulating them itself.

I've done a factory reset on the router.
I've again cleared the cache on both my Chrome and Edge browsers.
I could reset the IPv4 pool end again, but this time using the normal bowser window, but still have the same error when trying to change the reservation list.  I tried one item.
I opened up an inprivate window and input one item and saved it successfully.
I then input the other 5 items and they wouldn't save.
I logged back in and tried one item and it saved and when I tried to do the next one, on it's own, but not having logged out, it failed to save.
I logged back in and saved the next item and the next one again failed to save.
After doing 5 of the 6 items I thought, I wonder if I can do one after logging in to the normal web page.
I logged in using a normal web page (still in edge) and I successfully saved my last item.

I then wondered if I logged in fresh and tried to save all items in one go whether it would work.

I could delete each one, one at a time without logging out and back in, which I was quite pleased with.

Just to keep up. I have my pool numbers still set how I want. I could input each reserved ip address, one at a time by logging out and back in again, in either an inprivate or normal edge webpage

I deleted all of them.

Using a normal browser window (edge) it fails to add them all as one.

Using an inprivate window (edge) it fails to add them all in one go.

I'm hoping I can add them all one by one again, but I've been doing this for over an hour, testing with both success and failure etc. so I'm going to take a break and come back to it shortly.

I'm also going to do my next trial using an older computer, running Windows 7 to see what happens.

Ideas as to why this peculiarity happens would be good.

I've attached a picture I took of the window showing the failure messages.

There were at lot of bugs affecting the 5364 where IP addressing changes were concerned, but these affected V3 hardware; you are on V4.00. I never had any such problems with V4. However, I no longer have a 5364 so I cannot try & replicate them. They do sound like bugs, though.

I will go through your PM to me now & get back to you.

Yes to cache on both browsers.
I was working in Chrome, so tried in Edge.
I just have to go out, so I will download and try duckduckgo on my return in a few hours.
After my wife has finished working - we work for ourselves at home - I'll do the factory reset on the router.

I assume you have cleared your cache as well and have tried a different browser. Have done a factory reset to the router?

I've tried in private with Microsoft Edge.
No different, still won't save the reserved addresses, although the IPv4 pool end is still set where I want it.

It wasn't so quick at returning me to the log in page, so when it was doing that, the LAN page showed again for a second and I could see that the ip address and subnet mask were not populated at the top of the LAN IPv4 page and underneath each was an error message which said something like invalid ip address and I assume invalid subnet mask.

I did it all again and checked that the boxes were all populated before pressing save and they were. Same error occurred.

@kanya-TT

Thank you both for your replies.

I hadn't thought of trying incognito mode.

I have just done this and I have been able to change the IPv4 pool end in about 20 seconds, after spending about 5 days on this off and on.

My happiness was, though, short lived, as it won't add any reserved addresses, with the same problem happening.
I, also, cannot move from page to page as before.

I'll try yet another incognito mode in my second browser.

It does, I assume, though point to an underlying problem, which needs to be solved before moving forward with achieving my goal of adding reserved addresses.

Thanks.

Hi @skier-hughes ,

Thank you for reaching out and providing such detailed information about the issues you're experiencing with your Sagemcom-FAST5364 router. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I'm here to help you resolve these problems.

Addressing Your Concerns

  1. DHCP Reservations: It seems that you're having trouble saving the DHCP reservations and changing the IPv4 pool settings. This could be due to a few factors, including browser compatibility or potential firmware issues
  2. Router Navigation: The difficulties you're facing when navigating between pages on the router interface are also concerning. This could indicate a problem with the router's firmware or a temporary glitch.

Suggested Steps

To help us troubleshoot further, please try the following steps:

  • Clear Browser Cache: Although you've mentioned trying this, please ensure that you clear the cache and cookies again, or try accessing the router settings in incognito mode.
  • Use a Different Device: If possible, try accessing the router settings from a different device or a different network to see if the issue persists.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, consider performing a factory reset on your router. Please note that this will erase all your current settings, so make sure to back up any important configurations. After the reset, you can set up the DHCP reservations again.

Additional Support

If these steps do not resolve the issues, please let me know, and we can explore further options, including scheduling a technician visit if necessary, after running checks of course.

Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to assisting you further!

Best regards,

Kanya
