Can somebody explain to me why my router keeps 'optimising' to the WORST channel virtually on a dialy basis. It is continually 'Optimising' to the same channel as next door causing interferance problems with all the receiving devices in the front of my house

Hi @mjlew
Maybe I did, I try to help a lot of people & I can't remember them all. The router & each Wi-Fi connected device are both transmitters and receivers. The router transmits data to a device and the device receives it. The Device also transmits data to the router, which receives that. You have to consider the areas of your property separately; one room could easily suffer from too much interference, whilst another room is fine.
I have no influence over TalkTalk policy and can only reiterate that Wi-Fi Optimisation cannot be disabled.
However, if you want to send a fresh set of screenshots via a PM (to preserve your privacy), then I will willingly take a fresh look at things for you.

I think you might have repleid to me a few years ago. Next door 1 way uses channel 6. Next door the other way uses channel 11. If I use channel 1, there is no problem. There is no interference at the back of the house where the router is. Using a wi-fi analyser app shows all the problems are caused by my router deciding that 6 or 11 is better than 1. That might be true where the router is located, but not where the majority of my wifi receivers are located. This router seems to change its settings at midnight meaning that each morning, when necessary (80% of the time), I have to manually reset it to 1. Regret to say 'optimisation' in this location is useless, it needs to be where the receivers are and not the transmitter

Hi @mjlew
First off, WiFi Optimisation can no longer be disabled.
The issue you describe can be that WiFi Optimisation is doing its job correctly. Now I appreciate that this might sound plain wrong to you. Let me briefly explain what I saw with another customer over the weekend, after I carried out an investigation.
There was a router in the nearby locality that was using a 40MHz channel bandwidth, which should never be used within the 2.4GHz band. This has the effect of using nine of the eleven or sometimes 13 channels. This leaves no other channel available to that TalkTalk customer to use, as this other network, whatever channel it was using, would interfere with every other channel. Wi-Fi Optimisation kept trying to resolve an issue that it couldn't and tried moving the channel to one that suffered a bit less interference, but even that channel was suffering from the problems caused by this other router. It would then try another channel & the cycle continued. What would have solved the problem was if that router had its channel bandwidth reduced to 20MHz, which would have also increased the speed for devices connected to the offending router.
To help find out if Wi-Fi Optimisation is the cause of your problem, I offer a free, impartial analysis of your Wi-Fi network and will try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.
I only send this out to people who request it.

I need it on channel 1. Sometimes it decides 6 is the best, other times 11. Both cause interference from neighbours' wifi. I know how to change the channel but don't know how to find out what it's defaut channel is in the advanced settings page.

Hello there @mjlew, have you tried logging in to your router Admin on your end and double check on the routers default channel?
