The engineer that setup wifi in my new flat set up two boxes, a router and a modem. I was out during the installation so I couldn't ask the engineer. I used to have virgin so I'm used to one box for both modem and router. Why does talktalk have two boxes and can I change it myself to one box by buying my own combined box?

Secondly, the engineer put in a new wall socket for the modem to connect to the internet cable. It sticks out from the wall a good 2 and a half inches and the cable after that even more, meaning my furniture in front of it now needs to be a good 4 or 5 inches from the wall. Can I replace or modify this box so it sits flush with the wall like existing phone/power sockets?

You have posted in the Broadband section. Do you have a Full Fibre, or FTTC connection using G.fast? Can you post a picture of the offending unit? Use the camera/image icon to add a pic.
