Pipex account not receiving incoming mail

Yesterday, I found I could no longer receive emails on my pipex account - on my windows laptop, iphone or ipad. I can send mails.

Incoming mail server is: imap.talktalk.net

A second account set up under my own account appears to be working fine.

Any suggestions?

No joy .... but I'll put it down to experience! Thanks for all your help - it's been quite an education!

The Bin folder or the recycle bin will be the one on the iPhone presumably? It may not be synchronised to the online Trash folder so use the laptop to sign in to your pipex mail on TalkTalk Mail webmail and look in the Trash folder. Just in case, look in the Inbox and Spam folders and any My folders in case the mail got moved. But if you don't see the mail messages anywhere in the online mailbox then they may be gone. This would suggest the mailbox password is more likely to be compromised than not. So, follow the security advice.

Thanks again! Nothing in my Bin folder. And the only items that came into my Junk folder were the two mails from Pipex support. Does this mean everything else is lost .....

If you don't recognise the filter rule as one you set up then it may be a Blocked Senders Filter that was inherited from the former mail platform and, if so, that would divert any detected mail, as set up by the rule, to the Trash folder. So that's where you would find anything sent in the last 30 days.

But if you don't recognise the Filter rule or what it was doing then maybe your email account password has been compromised and the rule set up by a hacker. Just in case, carry out an anti-virus and anti-malware scan of your devices to make sure there's no password capturing malware.

Good to know that removing the Filter rule has got your mail flowing into the Inbox once more.

Thanks! On my laptop, I checked filter rules, and there was one defined (blocked) - strange, as it's not an option I've really used (maybe I had a reverse-Eureka moment!). Now I have sent myself emails from other accounts and they have come in. Also on iphone. So it seems to be sorted - except for the missing emails since mid-week. Any suggestions about how to retrieve them?

On the laptop you're using an Internet browser and signing in to your pipex mailbox via the TalkTalk Mail webmail sign in.

If you cannot see incoming mail arriving and staying in the Inbox then you may have an Auto forward, Filter rule redirecting your mail or a POP3 email client account collecting your mail messages.

But you say you received mail from TalkTalk that appeared in your Junk folder. A folder that I assume is on the iPhone or iPad? So that's the equivalent of the Spam folder in TalkTalk Mail webmail's online mailbox.

I would check on the laptop that you have no filter rules defined. Settings (triple lines top right header) > Settings (menu item) > Mail (left side panel) > Filter rules. If any filter rules of any type are there then delete (dustbin icon) or disable.

Thanks for the info - very helpful.

On my laptop, I use webmail at apps.talktalk.co.uk.

On my iphone and ipad, I use the Mail option in Settings:

   IMAP

   Incoming mail server: imap.talktalk.net

   Outgoing mail server: smtp.talktalk.net

Interestingly, in addition to contacting the Community yesterday, I emailed TalkTalk at concerns@talktalkplc.com and got two mails from them which appeared in my Junk folder. Puzzling - to me, at least.

Your post tells me that you're using email software or email apps on the laptop, iphone and ipad. Have you checked TalkTalk Mail webmail via an Internet browser?

Advice on  Using TalkTalk Mail

If you find webmail is working for composing, sending and receiving mail messages then maybe your laptop or iphone or ipad are connecting to your mailbox using insecure settings and as a result TalkTalk have limited the mailbox to webmail only access. So the first thing is to check your email software / email apps are set up with the correct settings. A quick check for IMAP email accounts on Windows 10 or 11 Mail and the iphone and ipad is that the incoming port is 993 and SSL is switched on. Settings for IMAP email accounts on the Windows laptop using other software are incoming port 993 and SSL/TLS for connection security. Let us know which email software version is in use for each device.
