Hi Support guys,
Please can you reactivate my email account, I found my tablet had the wrong settings and I've secured it now.

Using the Android phone will be ok.
Continued use of WLM will not.
The test with CheckTLS.com proves that TalkTalk are using TLS 1.2 to send mail. Well we knew that already because TalkTalk are using the TLS 1.2 cipher suite. However, the WLM connection to the TalkTalk server remains insecure. WLM is inherently insecure and vulnerable to exploits and must not be used to connect to your mailbox.
Change and upgrade your mailbox password, update the password on the Android 'phone but leave WLM to a long retirement.

Hi both,
So I checked that I have TLS 1.2
(Patched registry etc)
I did a test with CheckTLS.com and got this reply-
SUCCESSFUL //email/test From:
Your email was sent securely using TLS.
TLS: | Successful |
SSLVersion: | TLSv1_2 |
SSLCipher:(removed) , |
So I believe I now meet the requirements ?
As a back up I have added email to my android 12 phone, if there are still problems ?
Regards
Colin

Hi cmwb1, if you continue using unsecure settings on any device your account will be limited again.

It won't be Windows Live Mail (WLM) on the tablet but if you're still using Windows Live Mail on a computer then you need to cease using WLM. WLM is an inherently insecure and deprecated product that does not support TLS 1.2 encryption that's required for TalkTalk Mail.
Perhaps you would be wise to let us know all the ways you use TalkTalk Mail. Devices, operating systems and email software and software versions.
If you continue to use WLM then because that is not capable of secure mail encryption using TLS 1.2 then your mailbox, although now working, will soon be locked permanently to webmail only access due to continued use of insecure mail connection(s).

Thanks Ady,
I think I found the issue now, I'm using Windows Live Mail and had selected "log on using secure password authentication" which appears to have been the problem.
Looks like I just needed the correct ports for SSL 587 and 995 (pop3)
All working now 🙂

Hi Colin the mailbox in your profile has full access now. Have you definitely got the secure settings setup on every device that might be sending and receiving the mail.

Hi cmwb1, I've added your mailbox to those to be restored to normal function. Please allow 48 hours for the change to complete.

I've asked that full access is restored for the mailbox email address in your Community profile, Personal information, Private notes. (Do check it's there - master mailbox address if using an alias address)
TalkTalk Support will respond here and then restore MAP4 / POP3 access as soon as reasonably possible. Until full access is switched back on, ask the user to use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an up to date Internet browser to keep in touch with email contacts.
Are you confident that no help is necessary checking any other services / devices / email software for compatibility with TLS 1.2 encryption and the incoming and outgoing server settings in use? Did you identify the only device using insecure settings, for example? The culprit device or software that got a stop on sending or mailbox access switched off because ports 25 (SMTP) or 110 (POP) or 143 (IMAP) were used?
